Could Jake Hyde be off on a free loan? WEYMOUTH boss Alan Lewer is working hard in an attempt to bring Swindon Town’s Jake Hyde back to the Wessex Stadium.
The Terras host York City tonight (7.45pm) in the second meeting between the two sides in the space of six days.
And Lewer, who has been working around the clock to build as strong a squad as possible, is hopeful that striker Hyde, who scored one goal in six appearances for the Terras last season, could be drafted in on loan.
He said: “We’re on the case as we speak and I’ve been trying to get in touch with Swindon manager Danny Wilson. But fingers crossed we can sort something out.
“Hopefully he will come but I’m not entirely sure if a deal will be done because we can’t offer any money.”
Former Dorchester Town keeper Simon Evans, ex-Cambridge United defender Gavin Hoyte, and Peterborough United loanees Billy Crook and Kwesi Appiah all played in the 2-0 defeat at KitKat Crescent on Saturday and are set to be included in tonight’s squad.
First-team players Stephen Reed and Cameron Mawer, who are yet to be paid by the club in 2009, will also be involved.
But Manchester United Academy youngster Kenny Strickland is expected to be unavailable due to travelling costs while Jordan Collins is suffering with an ankle injury and could be out for up to two weeks.
Lewer added: “Reedy, Cameron, Hoyte and Simon Evans remain from Saturday as do Billy Crook and Kwesi Appiah because Peterborough have agreed to pay their expenses but apart from that it’s looking like it’ll be youth players again unless we can add more people, which we are trying to do.
“We’re all committed to the cause and the boys are raring to go.
“Hopefully the fans will get behind us because you never know, with their support we could pull something out of the bag.”
The Terras lie 15th in the Blue Square Premier, two places and six points above City, but are without a win, or a goal, since the 2-0 victory at Torquay United on February 10.
A pitch inspection is set to be carried out by former Premier League referee Paul Durkin following overnight snow.
Meanwhile, former Terra Scott Doe has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Coca-Cola League Two outfit Dagenham & Redbridge.

Joking aside would be a nice gesture if we could help out with a couple of players who are'nt going to be involved with the squad, would give them some playing time and be good to get a look at them in a decent standard of football, i.e. Casal, Pook etc |

I totally agree, we have good links with Weymouth with ex players and youth teamers going to them, they are a nice friendly club and I wish them well.

Even if we still had to pay them, it would make sense for some of the fringe/youth players to get some competive games in.
At the moment players like pook, caal, marshall are being paid to do fuck all.

As I recall it was Doe who Phil Cannon went to scout when he spotted Theo Walcott. It's heartbreaking, when considering the state of our club, that we were responsible for getting England's finest young talent into the game and got fuck all for it. |
