One week on from playing us,Huddersfield have been busy in the transfer window splashing the cash.

They've signed.. Anthony Pilkington (Stockport),  Lionel Ainsworth (Watford) and

Dominik Werling (Centre Half from Germany).

Although classed as "Undisclosed fees" none will have come cheap.

Looks as if they're making a big push at the play-offs and with resources to match, who can blame them.

Not familiar with the German chap but the other 2 are quality signings. I'm jealous.

I get the feeling we would have got more financial backing if we had the season ticket level that huddersfield do.

Fitton should go to the next Football League meeting and throw a wad of £20 notes in the air.

Just to watch all those chairman picking up OUR money. aha!

Would be better value than Jon Paul McGovern anyway.

Not sure there's a lot in it - 5200 @ £269 = £1.4m
12,000 @ £99 = £1.2m.

They then gain the extra back from more merchandise and food / wet sales on the day.

I've just read the match report from their 4 - 2 defeat at Leicester.None of their new signings played,
they took the lead twice during the game, but couldn't cope with Steve Howard at the set pieces,or
with the quality of Matty Fryatt.Huddersfield had good support with over 3,200 making the trip.

It's a bit frightening to think that Leicester already have 60 pts and we're not even at the end of january.
Other posters have said before, but our trip to the Walkers is looking so,so reminiscent of Forest in 2006  Eek

It's more to do with ambition. If they have three times as many fans as us then they've built a better fanbase for if and when they go up.

The reason we haven't had as much ambition is because we're not ready to get promoted. We would not stay in the CCC for very long as we wouldn't be able to sustain the spending with a lack of fanbase and additional revenue streams.

This doesn't mean the Board do not want us to get promoted, just that it's not going to be as easy to make us a sustainable club as they hoped.

I know this sort of thing has been discussed many times before, but I'm sure Huddersfield never used to have three times as many fans as us.  There's still a part of me that (perhaps naively) thinks with some proper investment and a few successful seasons, there might be another 6,000 or 7,000 out there to bring out average gates right up to the 10,000 to 15,000 level.

Sounds absurd, but every other club around us (City, Reading etc.) seems to be managing it.  Is Swindon uniquely shite and apathetic?  Personally, I think not.  Probably more to do with the fact we have had nothing to cheer now for half a generation (with the exception of a Div 4 promotion season and making the Div 3 Play Off semis in 2003-04).
