The next few days sees Spurs v Portsmouth and Liverpool v Everton both games Police have issued warnings about abusive chanting. The last week has seen 11 Spurs Fans charged with "abusive" chanting including 2 children.Their crime? hating Sol Campbell and letting him know at a football game.As far as I can work out the song they were singing that has caused the fuss was neither Racist or Homophobic it was about hating the bloke for being a Judas.Fans abusing opposition players has been part of British terrace culture since organised football began, its our right.

Spurs and Pompey fans now have future of football fans in their hands, they have to not bow to the pressure from their clubs and the Police and give Campbell and 'arry as much grief as they posssibly can.I'm not condoning Racist or Homophobic chanting and dont think either are really the issue or indeed much of problem in British football for the last 10 years.

Whats considered abusive chanting anway? what offends one man may not offend another.Who sets the benchmark?

No they werent, they were being football fans and abusing a hate figure.Nothing wrong with that,it wasnt racist,no ones been charged with racist chanting either.I think you've missed my point.

WHO'S THAT WRAPPED AROUND A LAMPOST WHO'S THAT BLEEEDING FROM HIS HEAD.............

Now some people hate that song and find it abusive me I fucking love it! As for who judges what is abusive then idealy a jury the defendants peers. but most likely it will some stuck up daily mail cunt.

The fact is that if the majorty of people in a football stand are singing a song then how can it be classed as offesive who are they offending. If cause the eay round it is to just sing the song but leave the name out then who do they know who are abusing?

Just another example of the police state in action soon we will be issued with goverment approved song sheets!

Gazza if youve got a problem with a police state thats your opinion(in mine problem)...if you dont like the way our police do things i suggest you go to another country and see how the police work there...just because lots of people sing together at a match dosnt make the vile shit they are spouting wrong...I may tell an Irish joke about some thick Paddy..but i wouldnt do it anyware in Ireland, every footy fan knows ware that line is...but obviously you dont.look around you Gazza i think theres more important things to get pissed off about....so will you be there tomorow hoping the black fukker Sol is hanging by the lampost tomorow..

My stance is I wouldnt condone or stand for Racist abuse, here or in Spain. It doesnt really happen much in British grounds anymore. You get the odd idiot but thats it .The abuse Campbell got wasnt Racist it was about it him being a Judas.Ive no problem with that at all.

IMO Yeovil police wouldnt arrest the people they have for calling a player a judas...i hope not anyway because ive done it loads of times myself....but the things Spurs fans were chanting wre very, very offensive.

I've got to agree with yeovil, I've read the transcript of what was chanted at the judas cunt and didn't feel it was racist.

It was hate fuelled yes, but not due to the colour of the judas cunts skin, more due to the fact he's a judas cunt.

of course lets all jump on the pc wagon and turn every issue into one of race. I have never abused a black player and never would. But I should have the right to call sol a cunt, a judus, a money grabbing mother fucker, a peddo or anything else that I see fit.

Where do you draw the line?

If Danny Wilson is shit and you decide to voice your opionion but the club don't agree so they tell the stewards anyone abusing danny chuck them out.

The fact is that like the TEF football grounds are pretty self regulating eg you never hear the lamppost song anymore because whenever it's started people booo or tell whoever's singing it to shut up. The fact is that the majoirty of the time the players can't even hear what's being sung unless it's really loud you can hardly ever make out what's being sung. As some one who many years ago used to swim professinal I can tell you that you can't hear anything your just to focsed on what your doing and I have no doubt that footballers are the same.

Problem is where the hell is the line going to be drawn? Is calling someone with long hair "gypo" or telling Kitson he's a ginger prick arrestable?

Besides which I agree with Yeovil, but I can see football becoming a prawn sandwhch brigade, sanitised, sterile version of itself very quickly. We'll be replacing the current fans with Americanised watered down  soccer fans before we know it, restricted to shouting "offence" and "defence" and that's about it.
