I think its their foreign part though, for example we get all our HP stuff shipped from France and/or Holland.

Just been put on risk for redundancy. 250 out of 1400 jobs to go by next year.

Eek.

Closed down the wife's business - laid off four staff.
I'm just sooo thankful we did it last summer rather than trying to ride it out (even though it was very painful at the time).
Mind you, it was made easy by the landlord wanting to increase the rent by 51% !!

The wife started a new job, and after two months they have reduced her hours & pay by 20%

I'll be OK - until they tell me I'm not !

Not likely to hear anything more for a good 6 months or so yet. It's been hinted that the selection pool will be based on KPI's so it's just time to get my head down and work hard for the next few months.

Either way I'm not really fussed, I've got a pretty open outlook on life at the moment. If the worst happens I'd get a reasonable package which would see me through a few months. As long as I can pay my mortgage each month then I'm happy. If that means I end up stacking shelves in Asda for a while then so be it.

Blimey, some of the scare stories on here are getting rather close to home now. Good luck to all of you under threat of redundency, wherever you are and whoever you work for.

I'm rather fortunate that my job is about as secure as you can get in this climate. Yes the recession is affecting me, but not to the same extent as others less fortunate than I. That said, my organisation is becoming leaner and more efficient, but is still recruiting (there is some good news out there), so if any Project Managers or Systems Engineers are looking for work, PM me and I'll send you a link. Its only open for applicants until next Friday, so you need to be quick!

That's the way I see it too.

They've decided to keep my boss on in a new role and make me redundant at the end of April, so looks like i'll be looking for another job! Been here 8 and a half years (doing IT desktop support), so at least i'm getting a half decent payout to tide me over for a bit!

The only debt I have is my mortgage thankfully so as long as that keeps getting paid i'll be happy!
