Is that favourable editing, or did we really shit on city that easily? I want us to be that good again We slaughtered them that day, a fantastic day trip out on the train for about £3 return on the old footy special. We truly had a great team then and we played proper football even away from home but the CG being a fortress, definatly the best Town team I have seen in my 30 odd years of following them. Chalkie and Shearer up front were a dream partnership, any of our striker since with the exception of Fjortoft were not fit to wash their boots.

If I remember correctly, on HTV in the week before they had a preview show with players from Swindon & Shitty. It was at the time we played the diamond formation in midfield, and I'm sure I remember the Shitty player being asked about how to combat the diamond, and his immortal reply was something like "We've worked on it and training and know how to play against it. it won't cause us any problems". The best thing of all was phoning the Shitheads on the Monday and ordering the match video. To be fair to them, they did sell me a copy. I might dig it out this afternoon and watch it again

I was at that game! Me and 2 mates went down by car, couldn't get tickets for the away end so ended up in with the shitty fans. Needed bodyguards by the end! (We didn't really celebrate the first two, but by the 3rd & 4th we couldn't really help it!)
The best performance by Tom Jones I ever saw.

Back to Chalky, I remember the goal he got against Millwall, after 'controlling' the ball with his arse to beat the defender and drilling it home, low and hard. I seem to recall that when he signed, Lou told him he wasn't very good and he should always shoot low and hard...111 goals later, I guess it worked. I also had the privilege of interviewing him at his home in about '94. Top bloke, if shorter than I thought he'd be.

Dave...I can never quite decide whether it's better to have, at least seen, decent STFC sides or just always known us as crap.
When you've seen some decent stuff, it somehow makes the present shit harder to take.
What Reg said.

i'm glad i saw some great football played by stfc.that city game was the season after the sunderland play off victory, and we didn't do very well that year. that said the quality of player, and football played by us was so much better than we get now.

I was lucky in that I lived and worked in Brizzle from 88 to 99. I think we finsihed above them all bar 1 season and had bigger gates than them for most years as well. I used to see Chalkie in Yate / Sodbury. I always got a smile as I'd be wearing my Town shirt. I'm glad I got out in 99.

Twas Hereford indeed in some Micky Mouse cup. He got a round of applause from most of the ground after he scored that goal, he looked a tad surprised about it.
