My work colleague this morning informed me that his taxi driver on Saturday (taking him to the ground) picked up one of our senior players on Friday night, pissed up at  2am eating a kebab. This player played on Saturday.

I know 100% my work colleague would not make this up, so it leaves whether the cabbie has. Given the fact that we're a struggling league one side, it's hardly super news to a non-town fan, I can't see why it would be made up. Only other possibility that this info is wrong is if it's mistaken identity - I just don't think that would happen with this player as he is very recognisable. The thing that does make me doubt it someone else on here hasn't mentioned it.

People can probably work out who I mean, but I don't think it's necessary to name anyone specific - if such an incident is true, it shows the lack of discipline and leadership on the pitch is happening off it too.

I don't usually like these threads, normally because people will moan about players going out on a Saturday or their night of etc - I understand a player's right to a life and a night out. But a senior player going out on a Friday night and getting lashed (if true) shows where the club is at the moment.

It wasn't Coxy. I think he hasn't been his usual self for the last few games, not sure that's down to going out - probably a confidence factor.

If it was JPM he should do it more often as I thought he did alright, as did Timlin.

Easton looked a little ropey to me, a yard or two off the pace, but just put that down to lack of match fitness.

Sorry Si. "My mate heard off a taxi driver..." is one step too many for me to slate someone. Too many things that could be wrong on the train tracks of rumour.

Taxi Driver exaggerating, wrong date, mistaken identity, your mate exaggerating, misunderstanding between your mate and the taxi driver....

Not saying that there's not evidence of an attitude problem at the club. But stuff like this is pretty baseless.

If I did start a big angry rant, vilifying an individual, the whole squad or the club in genera,l based on this, then I'd be doing it on what a friend of a friend heard from a taxi driver. That would be very retarded. So I'm not going to.

Timlin was awesome saturday. the one player who gave a sh*t. How Morrison got man of the match is beyond. He played well, but Timlin single handedly worked hard, tried to lift everyone, scored. He was fucking immense.

Who was it?

Maybe it was a look a like. As I was walking to the ground at about 5 to 3 I swear I saw Phil Smith drive down Shrivy road in a 4 by 4 which would make exactly 0 sense as I'm sure at 5 to 3 he was in the CG warming up and about 7,000 people saw him but I had to do one hell of a double take.

On first sighting I was convinced it was Phil Smith but couldnt have been.

A fella in my local is a taxi driver, one of those who is irregular, but always likes a chat about the Town when I see him.

He always gives me a full report about the Town players he picks up pissed, smoking, couple of birds on the arm, that sort of thing.

We all know who they are or were...time honoured tradition of small town lower league footballers.

Fair enough Ben. It's not really an angry rant, more so that I'm bitterly disappointed that such a rumour is going around, damaging the reputation of the playing staff even further (as if their poor performances weren't enough to do that already). The fact I stated on several occassions that it may not be true and in fact I have my doubts shows that.

You only hear about these sorts of things when the shit is really hitting the fan, the point I was trying to make was more so to do with perceptions - as a fan I can see a lack of discipline on the field, now even I am starting to wonder whether part of this comes from off the field. Rumours like this fuel the fire. Williams getting accused, arrested and charged with what seems like a serious crime fuel the fire (not that he has been found guilty as it stands).

Even if it is a false rumour, why the player in question would be subject to such a harsh accusation when he is one of our more respected players is strange. Just isn't the usual scapegoat. In fact I may as well just say it was Lee Peacock.
