I reckon it might be Hartlepool who Fitton said were reluctant to enter negotiations with him. Does seem a bit strange to me that Danny's left when they're mid-table. Wouldn't be a bad appointment at all.

He'd offer stability. I'm not sure though. Doubt it's anything to do with us tbh.

I know that Hartlepool fans were unhappy with the amount of times they had to salvage draws against teams they should be at home (us included).

I don't beleive he did say that, all he said was all on his shortlist were employed....
The Adver said: "The shortlisted quartet are all currently in employment at a higher level" Fitton himself never mentioned the 'higher level' bit though.

And Wilson leaving Hartlepool so suddenly certainly fits in with Fitton's quote in today's Adver: "“We are still hoping to secure his services, but it’s looking less likely from his club’s position,” Fitton said.

“They have been reticent about entering into negotiations with us at all."

That would be the type of situation which could lead to Wilson resigning IF he was interested in coming to Swindon and IF it is him that Fitton is talking about.

I think of all the realistic options who could be appointed, there will be a certain proportion of the fan base (the worryingly large mongish element, the ones who think Fitton and co are 'no better than the last lot' and are under the impression Fitton hasn't spent any money etc) who will not like the successful applicant whoever it is, for whatever reason.

I would be quite happy with Danny myself. We really do need this resolved sooner rather than later though. I am getting just a teeny weeny bit concerned now.

I thought he was doing a decent job there and could attract decent players like that winger we was after.I would love to see him here.

I'm sure it can't be Wilson, if it was and he resigned, H'Pool would refuse to accept his resignation forcing Swindon to enter into negotiations to pay compo and then they play hard ball, and then when they can't agree they put him on garden leave stopping him taking any other job.

If it was a manager that has been approached why would the club in question grant permission to talk and then play hard ball stoppig him leaving ? if they didn't want to lose him they would refuse permission to start with unless he was at a lower club and it would be a step up which they would want to agree compo knowing the manager wants to leave.

I'm sure Wilson is just a coincidence.

Surely this is just a case of a League One manager getting sacked!

What we do need to be wary of though is him phoning Fitton and getting added to the shortlist so the process then starts again

I agree. We should warn Fitton through an internet message board that this could happen.

BBC report Wilson was sacked

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hartlepool_united/7784326.stm

They imply it was because of a "slump" to being just 7 points above the relegation zone. It surely has to be more than that,  even if not STFC related.

I notice our friends on thisis are convinced that there's got to be a link.

Personally, I doubt it.
