We often get the "what if" argument on the TEF, but this appointment has bought it up to an awesomely bizarre level. It's been brilliant watching the different interpretations on the various candidates CV's. Everybody has there own individual favourites, but we've had little consensuses.

Is the over all win record most important? Is the record with clubs at our level most important? What about the transfer funds they've had available at other clubs? What about the style of football they've played? What do they do with back room staff? Why did they leave their last job? Are they too ambitious? Are they not ambitious enough?

And then we've got the discussions about the appointment process itself.

Why has it taken so long? Should Fitton just appoint someone as soon as possible? What's Fitton on about in his latest interview? Should he have raised our expectations? Should he match our expectations? Are our expectations too high? Why's he ruled out [blah]? Why hasn't he ruled out [blah]? Will he let them bring in their own backroom staff? Is he having fun teasing us? (yes).

I've enjoyed all of it, but it would be nice if it would end. Like a coked up blow job.

If its anything like the 300 million odd pages of bollocks new manager speculation, I've gone right off the idea

It's a bit like our current lengthy managerial recruitment process.

Good fun but won't seem to finish.

On that note. When did Fitton take over must be very close to exactly one year in charge now?

As for a manager in my opinion.

He needs a very good track record, someone who has done well at a few clubs over a few years. For example Paul Sturrock before he came here had won promotions with Plymouth, Plymouth & Sheffield Wednesday plus a decent record in Scotland. He had done well where ever he has been.

If you've got a decent record at all your previous clubs then you must be good at wheelling dealing and working the transfer market.

Alot of managers take their same backroom staff everywhere they go, so I guess you wanted a management team rather than just a manager these days.

Ideally I wanted someone who had a good record in the lower league and someone who has a few promotions under their belt. Ian Holloway has done, so he would be and always has been my number 1 realistic choice although if he was going to be our next manager he would be by now.

Our fans like all others get stupidly carried away. Take last season, we're lower mid table and the players mention play offs and all our fans believe the hype and think we should be making the play offs, same again this season. We build up our own expectations waaay too high but some of the things the players say and what Fitton says doesnt help.

The minute John Ward or Martin Ling is appointed everything will straight away mention the Fitton comments 'Ling isnt going to blow my socks off' and 'what happened to this guy with Premiership expirence he must have been better than this John Ward guy'

Of course money plays a huge factor in who the manager is and again with us being taken over I think some people still expect us, or rather Fitton to throw stupid amounts of cash at us like Roman has at Chelsea, no chance.

I started this as a discussion about the discussions DV. A sort of weird meta job. Not a discussion directly about candidates and the process.

I'll let it go where it goes though.

the discussion is all bollocks, the amount of 'inside' knowledge that has come out only to be denied is shocking.

In truth no one knows what the fuck is going on but every one likes to pretend that they do, although on that note two weeks ago Stuart Pearce and Sam Allardyce were shown around the Wanborough training pitches!!

I agree with that. It's been ace how we've got the "I've heard" info on several different people. Why does it surprise people when nobody believes them.

I've been guilty of believing a few of the rumours though. Ward seemed likely. Calderwood/Ling was believable. I let myself get carried away with Pearce a bit. It's been fun hasn't it?

All I wanted to do was start a thread about how fun the management discussions have been, without it falling into another management discussion thread.

And it has been fun. And there could have been a fair bit of discussion here, about how the VC odds changed. How it's possibly the most debated/longest managerial appointment (one for Reg?). All sorts of things too talk about ABOUT the discussion. But DV can't fucking get that. Knob head.

You've ruined everybody's chance to pat themselves on the back for three weeks of pretty ace debate. Maybe with a bit of extra discussion about how their opinions have been affected by the different threads, and how it's been easy to get carried away. All sorts of discussion available.

Buy no DV. That was all complex for you. You had to go join the Colin Todd managerial discussion knobhead club. To be fair you haven't said that anybody who disagrees with you is a Thisis mong, but you still ruined this thread. Go stand in the corner.
