I saw Sousa play in '98 for Portugal when England destroyed them 3-0 at Wembley. The "Golden Era" likes of Figo, Joao Pinto, Couto and Baia played... Despite good players the Portuguese were not seen as a threat, in fact the programme has an article on how Figo was and would be one of the greatest never to play in a World Cup.
Before Figo I seem to remember Sousa being the great hope of Portuguese football but injuries let him down.
However, whether he can do the business in 2nd tier English football as a manager is a completely different matter! With the money he could be dealing with, I guess anyone could.

If he is allowed to pick the team - Apparently Dowie was sacked because he refused to pick Flavio's team........

I've some mates who are R's fans and they were perfectly happy, with the way that Luigi Di Canio was building a side during the second half of last season..They saw progression allied to some good results and some astute signings were being made.
I've seen Sousa play for Inter and Juve whilst in Italy and he was an excellent central midfielder.
The managerial merrygoround at QPR continues....

Played for Dortmund as well - pretty good player, I believe he won the champions league twice in two seasons with different teams (Juve and Dortmund)

Was it knee-knack that did for him or am I thinking of Redondo? The 'other' great central midfielder with the other great Milanese club..

Yes it was Redondo, who suffered a terrible knee injury only a few mins into his Milan debut. He never fully recovered, which was such a shame as he was a wonderful player for both Argentina and Real Madrid. He was the achetypal deep lying playmaker, who could also tackle and break up opposition attacks.Remember the long flowing hair as well?

Aye. What a player he was.
And a gentleman as did he not take another red cent off Milan after the injury? Particularly since most players would steal the pennies off a dead man's eyes.
