I play Cox as an attacking midfielder sat behind a target man and he scored 24 for me in his first season. I play him in a free role.

In my experience it's all in the team instructions. In my early years i used to be to tempted to give lots of individual instructions to players and do things like, give players with 20 for long shots, long shooting often. But in reality i've discovered it's best to base my team around a system, in my case through balls and short passing. So i set all midfield players to through balls often, set all of my back 4 to passing direct, have mid wingers in a 442, with forward runs often, mids with forward runs in the middle and closing down often. With regard to defending/attacking apart from the strikers (set to first click attack) i set all the other players mentality by team instructions. This way my full backs over lap alot when i set the team to attacking and stay back when set to defend. The same is true of the midfield.I also use tight marking, set 2 target men, with the instructions for supply as run onto ball. I've scored over 130 goals so far this season, with 3 strikers on 25+. I've been using pretty much the same formation for 11 seasons, i just tweak it every game and 4 or 5 times per game. I am playing 2006 though...

I have a regen named Sonny Cruse, he is a 17 year old wonderkid.
I did by him because he is a bit dead good, although I may have bought him anyway because he has possibly the bestest and happiest name in the whole world ever.

there's a coach or scout in holland called Magic, i cant remember what his first name is tho, but its good.
i'm plodding through my second season in 12th, managed to get coxy to sign an contract extension til 2012, so will look to flog him in the coming off-season, he's worth over £1m so should be able to get a fair chunk. billy paynter has finally started scoring, leon best is tucking them away in the 5 games he's played since signing for 20k, and marcus fuchs is an able back up too. woop.

For some reason Coxy's stats are a bit crap, but he still bangs them in the CCC. He struggles in the Prem though.

Have started a game and tinkered about using this formation. So far have won all my pre-season games including beating Supermarine 7-0. We'll see how this goes when the season starts for proper!

Ditto, I'm still playing FM08 and was having a right miserable time of it and just managed to stave off relegation last year. Bought in a few freebies and some good young spanish lad in midfield (Ruben) and adopted Barry Scotts wonder tactics and I'm now top of the league with 18 games played, which currently includes a 14 game unbeaten run...

I may try to post some screenshots with a bit more detail, because it can come unstuck. I also know when playing with it in FM2007, the team instructions were sometimes too sensitive and it was harder to tweak so easily, so might react similarly in later versions. The trick imo, at least in fm2006, was just to not go over board with player instructions in the often end. I mean i had a central midfielder who scored 24 goals a few seasons back and his long shots were set to never. At least 50% of his goals were from long shots, so I believe that if a player does have the opportunity to score they'll still go for it, but at least stop wasting chances when the through ball is easier than the goal. Or something.

My scouting network seems to be working:

I only paid about 1 Mil between them.

Got bored of trying and failing to get Swindon anywhere, and am now playing in Spain with Villarreal, just going into the fourth season. Still about where we started (4th in La Liga, CL quarters etc) but I've signed some very good young players so hoping to do better in the forthcoming season.

Just starting one more game with every player from every country to see if I can find some half decent talent.
Odds are against them getting work permits but hey ho worth a go.

I did a slight twist on that on a game with I think Celtic, where I could only have one player from each country. Really placed the emphasis on finding good players from obscure countries- especially minor EU ones.
