I thought the decision was taken on police advice - nothing to do with conditions. Was a great game thuogh - good to see a 2 way fight turned into a 3 way fight when City turned up.

Na it was flooded......all the other sides were pissed as they had to play Rovers in a mudbath..

1-0 win at west ham. Maskell free kick I think in the last minute.
6-4 at Brum.
4-1 Win over the Gas at twerton park mainly as all my raving mates at the time from Bath were Gas and I was out with them that night after the game Smiley

I would have put a fair wager on it being police advice. Lucky I don't bet very often. I must be going senile.

Suppose it would have to be the Wembleys.

I mostly remeber the trip home from the Sunderland one and all the people on the motorway bridges and lining the streets as we drove back into Swindon, that was just mental.

Im struggling to remember a single other away game ive been to Huh?

wierd one was the second leeds game in the cup, went on ashs coach with yeovil, was this 2005? It was strange because on the way back i was asleep and woke up on the coach as we pulled up in a services, John Peel was on the radio and said "that was the wedding present in session" i opened my eyes and could see yeovil asleep across the aisle and it felt like i had gone back in time to 1987.

£10 says unfit pitch.........

LEAGUE RECORD

First Match: April 11th, 1987 3-4 v Swindon Town (8,196)

Number of League games played at Ashton Gate by Bristol Rovers: 1 .

To counteract any potential crowd trouble and allow for an extra large gate, the match v. Swindon Town was subsequently moved here from Twerton Park.

Still want a tenner.

Thats not right............i am going to check this out!!!

If they wanted to avoid crowd trouble they would hardly allow Swindon and Rovers to play at Ashton gate.........

I'll stick with police advice. Come on surely others must remember. We had about 4000 there. I think the polive were concerned over the number of fans we'd take and where they would end up. As it transpired it was a crap decision as City and Rovers slugged it out in the main Grandstand. Mind you we won a great game and seeing two bunches of Brizzle half wits kicking shit out of each other added to the spectacle.

Likewise.........John Ateyo was my Maths teacher at the time and he took me down there.

He offered me a posh ticket but i refused and went in the away end.......he told me Bobby Gould was well pissed off at the end...

Maybe we should ask Roger Malone!!?

Gillingham away, 2/3 years ago when we got stuffed. Cos I got absolutely smashed with the TEF and it was a belting day out. One of the most enjoyable booze ups of my life. Brilliant.

My recall fwiw, was that Rovers only moved into Twerton that season, and moved it to Trashton, to accomodate a bigger crowd...no idea if it was on police advice, or just their own decision.

I've got the HTV coverage from before the game.... it seems to have been moved because of the state of the pitch at Twerton.... but though they show the mudbath, it's not 100% conclusive as they don't actually refer to that being the reason.

I can post to YouTube if you want to decide for yourselves!

1-0 win at west ham. Maskell free kick I think in the last minute.

Twas a penalty I think, with Chalkie winning the penalty after having just come on. And Nicky Hammond playing an absolute blinder to keep them out (They battered us).

I got a whack in the head from some West Ham bruiser after that match for being a gobby little cunt, it was well worth it  Cheesy
