We need something like 43 points from the next 35 matches, if we get 4 pts. out of the next six games (tough fixtures ahead), that's 39 pts. out of 29 games.  If we lose the next two home games, and only get a point or two from the next six games, we will almost need play-off form unless the other teams around us continue to under achieve.

I'd prefer to hear we were lucky today and stole 3 points, something we cant seem to do at present.
The games I've seen this season I've not been that impressed with any of the opposition.
We are on this downward spiral where nothing goes right, changes to the management team are needed immediately, there is no believe from any quarter at present, just the same old same as every game, blind hope and faith from the directors that Malpas will turn this situation around must be at the end.
Inspiration and luck is needed, he has neither.

I agree, for me it's also more damming that the fact Malpas has made significant changes to the team today a clear attempt to make a difference (Pook for instance) and still we lost. We're running out of options and I can't really see what else can be done with him still in charge.

Just got back. There was no way I was going to boo that performance-MM'S summary is spot on.The players showed plenty of desire today. The only criticism I have is that Mac should have come on at half time.Apart from the odd dodgy corner he scared them shitless and got quality balls in the box,Peacock had two great chances from his crosses. It wasn't a pen-Corr should have scored but hesitated thinking he was offside and tried to con the ref.Cox played really well and set up Paynter for the goal.It was a blow when Bill went off injured.Im downhearted about the result but at least saw somethings to give me a bit of hope.

A Southend fans seemed to think Corr got clattered, it was a clear penalty but he also thought Corr was 4 yards offside, although the linesman didnt give it but let the foul go because Corr was offside....

Penalty then, not that it did us any good last week.

Glad that the radio description of the performance seems pretty accurate according to our fans and even Southend fans.

Same type of performance Tuesday with a better result then!

How was Pook?

Mmm, back in as well after a frustrating day.

Agree there was plenty of effort but we just can't defend!  Doh Two bog standard goals from right wing crosses against a side missing both their first choice strikers too.

The team selection did seem a bit panicky, though actually I thought Pook did ok.

I think the most frustrating thing was the subs at one-one, leaving Timlin at left back did seem rather bizarre as we made the problem area even down the left even weaker defensively. That seemed to kill any momentum we had just gained. The weird thing was we played much better when behind, when we had something to defend at 0-0 or 1-1 we didn't. Fear?

Morrison has ability but is it me or does he get dragged about a lot by strikers out wide? I don't know if that's his fault, or what he's meant to do, but it reminds me a bit of the Premier League defending where our back line would get pulled all over the place.

It pains me to say it but the Southend centre halves were ugly, niggly, cheating fooks who would shirt pull, nudge people in the back and try anything to stop people playing or win the ball. Paynter was bullied effectively throughout. I'd like ours to be like that.

I think we are in big trouble. Yeovil, Hereford and Crewe I think are worse than us from what I can tell. The 4th spot is rather too wide open for my liking.

My first away game this season and it was more enjoyable, if thats the right word, than watching them at home, hardly any booing or moaning just most fans getting behind the team.

As already has been said we still cant defend, what do they do in training? A more commited performance but final ball not good. Didnt think it was a penalty but he should have scored before anyway.

...and do we really want either of these two guys who are on the verge of being sacked for being shite?

No, we want success, just wanted to make the point there are plenty out there.

Anyone else think 100 goals could be on this season?

Our defence just seems utterly ruined.

I wouldn't have thought so. We conceded 100 in the Prem and to do that we conceded 4, 5 or 6 on several occasions, even a 7 at Newcastle. Although we now have more games in which to do it of course Roll Eyes
