Does anyone think Fitton might cut his losses and sell up if things keep going badly? I'm not expecting him to but you never know.

And you have some evidence of their readiness to do this? They had an opportunity, what 9/10 months ago and preferred a cheapish option.

But Reg, it's what I want to see. I don't need evidence for my opinion.

If Fitton only wants cheap options he's going to have to change his mind.

reg, are you being serious or playing devil's advocate here?

as a businessman he is not going to continue to back someone who is failing his business.

My point is SY, that everyone just assumes AF, will wave a wand and magic in a new sexy management team, whilst providing MM, Byrne and Williams with plenty of time to practise their golf swings.

My reading of the admittedly thinnish evidence, is that such an outcome is less likely than something more pragmatic and less expensive, like returning to Byrne/Williams, or even Byrne/Williams going and MM being able to get in his own Barry Hunter.

How do we know they went for Malpas because he was the cheap option? I was under the impression he impressed Fitton and fitted in with the plan and that's why he was appointed.

At the time we interviewed MM. Lingy, Micky Adams and Dave Hockaday, Fitton stated that at least one wanted too much money.

I was under the impression that he meant transfer Fee's, not the managers salary.

I may be wrong though.

Either way, it gives us a bit of insight into AF's thinking only 10 months ago.

Of the candidates...Lingy is below us in the table...Adams' Brighton haven't won at all at home, and managed to lose a game to 9 man Walsall.  Dave Hockaday is to be seen looking perplexed alongside Jan Poortvliet at Soton, who have a side of kids + Chris Perry aand Paul Wotton.

if fitton was trying to do it on the cheap, then he will have learned it was the wrong move.
why clear all debt then try to build a team on fuck all?doesn't make sense to me.
personally i dont think he saw malpas as the cheap option.

Perhaps Sturrock was good at getting the best out of average players, whereas Malpas isn't.   I'm losing interest in the whole STFC thing at the moment.  Need something to reignite my passion, cos at the minute I can't be arsed

It's not really on the cheap though is it...the heavy cost was in acquiring the debt laden club, and sorting out matters like the CVA.

You then have a budget to work to, which in our case is hopefully within our means. It's a cheap option insofar as in the loony world of football, it's not silly money.

I can see the point in sitting tight, waiting for other clubs to go tits up. The money is comming out of football, its more of a poisoned chalice.

But we cannot go down.

And its fucking boring waiting for the credit crunch to hit clubs other than West Ham.
