The point with the minutes applause is you don't get a couple of knob heads ruining it for the masses.  This way the lad gets a nice send off, with some prick shouting out Malpas out, or such like.

And yeah Fred you are being a bit insensitive, the little lad was only 6 come on mate a minute applause isn't asking a lot, poor little lad.

But just because he was young... surely you could justify it for every supporter who passes away? Life's pretty much a cunt most of the time Rob, some people get dealt a shit hand... the club pandering to this particular case would suggest they deem this more "important" than if you, me or anyone else died, you've got to draw a line somewhere and that line should come before supporters regardless of circumstances - ex-players/staff only, imho.

I do agree that there's nothing more eerie than a few thousand people stood in silence in honour of someone's passing though.  But a minute's applause is a good substitute.

Plus the players/management have probably forgotten what a round of appluase sounds like at the CG, so it'll be nice for them too.

Well the Akers Way kids had a minute's silence, that fella who died a couple of years ago had a minutes round of applause.  I'm not bothered either way really, just think it's a sad story, and I wouldn't be surprised if LP and CE had something to do with this anyhow.

I wouldn't want one for me, maybe a chorus of "If I had the wings of a sparrow" that'd make me smile from above.

Paper says that it was at the request of the players as Peacock & Easton visited the lad in hospital before he died and attended his funeral so from that point of view I can understand it but I also agree that a minutes silence is more respectable but these days a minuties applauses seems to be the thing to do (although you do get arm ache clapping for a min !)

If it helps the parents get over losing their 6 year old son I'll clap for a minute.

I know people die all the time, so what? If someone wants this done it doesn't take much effort on our part to accede to their wishes.

I think what I'm trying to elucidate is this: where's the fucking harm in it and how does it cause anyone problems?

A nice touch by the board fair play to them,It's down to preference from the family,I expect they see it more as being joyful way of celebrating his life rather than the mournful way of a silence.
