Just had a look through our results this season and I've highlighted 6 games that have effectively cost us a shot at the play-offs, and effectively Sam Parkin.
First off we have Walsall away - 0-2 up, and we lose 3-2.
Stockport away - 0-3 up (20 mins to go!) we draw 3-3
Torquay at home - 3-1 up, we draw 3-3
Franchise away - Last gasp penalty saved 1-1
Walsall at home - 1-1 with a couple of minutes to go, we lose 1-2
City 0-0, but should have been about 7-2.
So that is 12 points from these 6 games that we really should have made sure of, but didn't. All we needed was a little bit more professionalism and we'd have been sitting pretty in 4th 75 points, above Brentford on goal difference.
I know we don't deserve to be up there, but looking at the other clubs in there, I don't consider any of them worthy of going up either.
All in, this has been a very poor division this season, I only hope it continues to be, else we could be in a lot of trouble next season if all the rumours are to be believed.

I think another thing that cost us all season was our inability to score first in games. From the Doncaster game in February until the Dhesterfield game on Saturday, we failed to score first in any game. As proved above, we were incapable of killing games off anyway so I doubt it would have mattered much.

We've made lots of individual mistakes, and we never ever ironed them out. What a thoroughly disappointing season.

Would be interesting to see what formation we played during these games, easy to blame the tactical side of things but again I think a lot of unnecessary tinkering has cost us this season.
Whether we miss him or not replacing Mooney with a consistant goalscorer never really happened what with injuries and the like.
Next season things have to be right from the off as there will be no bringing in new faces to patch up the gaps once things get under way.

1.King persevered with Hewlett til it was too late 2 King took too long to realise Smith was one of the best players at the club 3 King did not persevere with Fallon after he scored 4 goals in 6 games' Pretty much the manager's fault I'd say

I don't think any of those factors have made much of a difference.

I don't think any of those factors have made much of a difference. Smith scored 10 goals in 23 games, you've gotta wonder how many he'd have got if he'd played the rest. I don't want to go on about it though, there was a bloke sat in front of me on saturday that was going on about Smith not playing the first half of the season. He was the biggest nerd ever, I thought he was gonna start speaking Klingon at one point.
