But if we're starting games presuming that Macca is going to be ineffective then he might as well not play.
If Macca does get marked out the game then it's something you change with a substitution or a re-shuffle, I don't think we should go into games presuming it's going to happen, especially at home.
That's not the point I was trying to make. The fact that we looked to the left hand side every time made it easy for them to mark him out as they only had half a pitch to defend. If we spread it out to both wings we're more likely to stretch them and create gaps on the left and down the middle

Clearly this is true, but we are also less likley to be over-run in central midfield. pros & cons.

i'd start with mcgovern, easton in alongside nalis, and macca down the left and set them up 4,4,2. marshall is too much of a risk to start this game imo

I wonder whether he can catch everyone unaware and throw Marshall Right, Easton and Nalis in the middle with Timlin on the left? After all Timlin is left pegged and used to be considered as a viable option on the left.

I think weve got to have te right pairing in the centre midfield. Macca has to play on the left and it would be interesting to have Marshall on the right.

My managerial record is better than yours Toddy.
Of course dropping McNamee is stupid. I'm just throwing a thought out there, it's just one means of creating this mythical balance people talk of without a suicidal attack.
Personally i'd have Marshall and McNamee on the wings, play Easton, Timlin and Nalis in the middle and have Ifil, Aljofree and Vincent/Kanyuka/Morrison (i forget who's injured out of those 3) at the back.
