Blue Badges, disabled people and parking!

I have a vast expreince of disabled people so I speak from expreince.

In my book having a diabites, missing a finger etc does not mean you are disabled it means you have a slight problem and it really fucks me off wehen you see people pakr with blue badges and in disabled bbays who jump out of thier cars and seem perfectly able. why?

If you are really fucked you should get a blue bagdge I don't think you should get one for minor allements!

alot of the time its self inflicted ie poor diet and lack of excersise.
i agree about the original point.alot of conditions are not severe enough to be classed as disabled.and the benefit system which is flouted by many needs major adjustments.

I think the whole system needs more consistency and so does the benefits system. I think the consistency factor is key, because a lot of people aren't getting things you'd expect them to be entitled to, which in my opinion is a greater problem.

Same with NICE/NHS drugs administration, it is just a lottery and it's unfair.

But many of those able drivers are husbands/wives/partners or carers of disabled folk. If they are on disabled "business" so to speak then use of the blue badge is ok. Also, many disabilities are not immediately visible (artificial limbs, heart or other conditions that make walking any distance difficult), but unfortunately there are those who abuse the system. As far as I know a missing digit doesn't qualify you for a badge.

I agree with the gist of the thread that "minor ailments" should not qualify but unless the whole system is tightened up at the point of issue how could it be governed? Is it necessary to attend in person when asking for a badge or do you simply need a letter from a doctor to confirm your disability?

If the authorities were as stringent about badges as they generally are about disability allowances, war pensions etc. (i.e. when it involves cash) maybe there would be less badges issued.

Couldn't agree more about the abuse this system gets.  I actually asked the council if there was any chance of a temporary badge in the run-up to my hip operations and the six months after.  Flatly refused due to the "confusion" it would cause.  Yet somebody in our street has a badge because they have a disabled child, this means they can park literally where they want.  Child is then wheeled around town in a wheelchair - I wonder if that is an abuse.  They also use the badge even when the child is not with them!

Eh? A disabled child seems a fair reason to have a disabled badge to me. I don't really get your logic about putting him in a wheelchair being an abuse either.

The badge when they don't have the kid with them seems unfair though, but I suppose that's something which is difficult to regulate unless you have wardens hanging around waiting for them to come back to check.

Pretty much, but do you start punishing the good majority to get at the bad minority? Of course you can bring in stricter checks, but if the cost of processing these is higher than just paying of the few which abuse the system then it's no a very efficient way of weeding them out. Although it does create jobs for people who do the processing so it's not all bad.

On a serious note leefer is right but the minority who fuck up are not really made to prove their problems . The buck stops with the goverment lazy people will always go for a easy option

Actually the original post is spot on,Im a blue badge holder but i do have acute arthritis both hips replaced and vision in one eye only and can mainly only walk with the aid of crutches.It's way to easy to get one of those these days and when people do have them ive known them to be leant out to friends etc.

Heart conditions can be bad tho so really you cant complain if people have blue badges for that,as for losing a finger they shouldt be allowed to have a blue badge.

Looking back to when i first got mine when it was then the orange badge, you had to be on dissability benefit along with only being able to walk a certain distance,unless you had some form of aid.Going by this post it looks like the rules have been relaxed.
