I think that's the problem here dave, Peacock has never been brilliant (no matter what position he played) and he's not completely crap either, he's a very mediocre player, a plodder.

Peacock is good in centre midfield, as he has a great workrate and can tackle, but imo opinion would still be behind Nalis Easton & Timlin

Like I say JPC he's okay, but I think we should be at a stage now where okay is not good enough, we need good, if not very good players now the club is on a firm financial footing.

Peacock did a good job in midfield last season and we missed when he wasnt there.

As for our four currently central midfielders Id split them in two and play one each.

So one of Peacock/Easton with one of Timlin/Nalis.

If you play Peacock and Easton together the midfield dont get forward enough as we found last season. So often it would go out wide and there would be no one running into the box. If you play both Timlin and Nalis they will get out battled by your Cheltenhams and what not.

The reason the club is now on a sound financial footing, is that the Board quite rightly in my opinion, have always stated they wont throw money at this project.

So, for example, the string of players that MM wanted but failed to get in the summmer, came about becasue we wouldn't meet players or agents demands...possible exception being Mulgrew.  We've therefore got players like Marshall and Casal...keen but raw....and Morrison a kid coming through.

Any extra finance will have to generated from within, that's why it was disappointing to exit the CC straight away again....

I daresay the Board were hopeful of generating some extra by the ST offer, although 5000 was OK.....the fact that PV got 7000 from their offer does point out the level at which we're currently at.  In other words we're OK and should expect mainly OK players.

i agree with you on this.he is an able deputy in midfield in particular, and will give his all up front.
but remember peacocks interviews regarding playing up front again.and the negative things he said about playing in midfield?
if he's a man of honour then he would have been telling the truth at the time.

Not really the point I was making Reg, I happen to be of the thinking that within our squad we have good players (Peacock is not one of these players - as he is just an okay player), I'm not saying the board should go out and sign very good players, as you say throwing money around, but I was picking up on the point made that some think Peacock is "brilliant" and others think he's "shiiiiite", he's neither he's just average.

I agree there, when Peac's was moved into the middle he was raving about it how it would be his new position and extend his career and now hei s back up front he raves about that.

But I suppose in a sense if he said he don't like it up front now then his stfc career would be as good as over as MM obviously don't want him playing in the middle.

Nevertheless, you state unequivocally that OK isn't good enough, how do you propose we get a squad full of very good players, if the Board wont pay for it.

I personally think the squad contains enough good/very good players at this time, with possibly the exception up front, corr (and paynter) may prove me wrong here.

Smith Brevo = good enough for this league
Ifil, Vincent, Smith, Casal, Kanyuka, Hasney, Morrison (given time) all good enough
Easton, McG, Timlin, Nalis, McNamee = good enough
Cox, maybe Corr, Paynter - good enough.

That's not a bad core for the squad.  The others probably need to improve to be reg first teamers.
