I still have a feeling that we're not quite there. While I think all round we did good defensive work, there were times that Tranmere passed it through us too easily and we were caught out. Luckily we were saved either by good defending from Ifil, or terrible finishing on Tranmere's behalf. McGovern left Jack Smith exposed far too often and it was down that side that Tranmere had most of what was very little joy going forward. Casal was exposed once or twice but overall he did well, need to give him time to settle.
Going forward, until the game was won at 3-0, I thought we were fantastic. Certainly the best attacking football since the playoff season five years ago! I think we'll tear teams to bits at the County Ground, and now Malpas' style is setting in I'm sure we're in for a lot of goals too. Tranmere were not a bad side, they passed it around neatly but they really lacked that killer touch. Whether that was our good defending or them I'm not quite sure, but once we took the foot off the gas, they had a little spell where they attacked more.
We really need to continue on this performance, and get a win at Cheltenham next week. If we are serious about challenging for the playoff we need to be beating teams like them, and we also need to make up for last seasons terrible away form. Pleased though, Nalis, Timlin, McNamee, Cox and Paynter were all superb and it's a great start to what will hopefully be a successful season.

To be fair I think the Tranmere fan is spot on. Fans were very unnapreiciative. Hardly up for it at all. Sad really, but we are going the same way as Bristol City, fans just cant get up for games at home.
Team very very nice. Paynter gave us everything you could have asked for. Great win, just need to show we are the real deal now by winning a few games away.

On the subject of Rocking Robin, love him or hate him, I understand from my pal who works at the club that hes on holiday at the moment but will be back for the next game.
Its great to see alot of positives come out of the yesterdays game, looks like the club have done alot of work on and off the field so thats something to build on.
As for the PA system, I was down at the club mid week and the old PA is being replaced with new (they had these cranes and stuff in the arkells stand installing new speakers), but the stadium bloke was saying that due to the weather they hadnt got round to replacing ones on the town end and DR stand. So I guess in time the rest will be done - damn good call if they are to do interviews with footballing legends, and stuff.!
Good idea to hook up with BBC as well on the pitch.
shame they still ran out of hot pies.-who ate all of them?! and club shop shut? are they still refurbishing it?

Spencer with the emphasis on ST's it was always likely that the quieter fan would be attracted...also some loss of TEnders would occur. I thought the TE would be worse than it was...I very nearly went for an early season walk, when an idiot steward was trying to get some random fella to sit down....steward was pointing out, he was going to make everybody sit down. So I explained I wouldn't be....at which point Paynter scored and I missed the goal.....I then pointed out he'd ruined my afternoon and he fucked off

Negatives:
Thought Tranmere made some good runs and had our defence stumped at times - quite often you'd see one of our defenders marking out two men and another two of ours marking nobody. Smith got caught out far too much, maybe because McGovern drifted in far too much. My latter point also concludes this.
Still, big Bas Savage was so shit it didn't matter.
Midfield looked overran at times, but as the game went on we started to look a lot more comfortable.
Positives:
Front two were brilliant. Don't need to say much more here, except Paynter was miles better than Peaks when came on.
Midfield finally settled down and played the football we're capable of. Thought Nalis played some good passes. McGovern looked really good when he finally decided to play on the wing. Needs to be more disciplined in doing that more often and he could surprise me and have an excellent season, as he played really well in the second half.
Overall we'll do ok this season based on that performance. We will definitely have to step it up to be in with a shout of play-offs, but as others pointed out, there wasn't a need to do that in this game.

Only a Swindon fan could write 82 words under negative and 79 under positive after a 3-1 win.
I don't think that the 40 after "Overall" go either way. Sort of like neutral words.

Only Ben would spend time counting out the words in a post and get it wrong.

83 and 80 according to MS Word, which is just as well, because I completely made up that you were wrong in the first place. Hurrah.

Whats with the Tranny fans mocking ours....didnt even know they were here....think we will make abit more noise than them at there place,as for Rovers having a bigger crowd than us its fair to pont out that Bristol is the 6th biggest City in Britain and City were away.....there bound to get bigger crowds than us......nearly 8000 is a great turnout, specialy with QPR midweek and Cheltenham away, alot of fans have to choose matches for financial reasons.
