"I have read and considered a number of reports from experts. It is plain to me that if I were to impose that sort of sentence you would be released in a very short time because prison would not be able to cope with your condition.

Sentencing you would just be a token gesture. I am anxious to impose a sentence that restricts your liberty."

Sound sfair enough to me if the prison couldn't cope what's the point in locking him up and then being released straight away.

Rich you may be fishing (see I'm learning) but I don't really see what nationality has to do with this one fella.

Like the Judge says must be awful for the poor old dear's family.

Broadmoor's not a prison it's one of the three high secure hospitals in England providing care for mentally disordered offenders.

What's more, due to the degenerative nature of this blokes condition, even they would very quickly struggle to deal with him. He's not suffering from amnesia but from the late stages of dementia. He has no memory of having killed his wife. He's not going to have much awareness of anything soon.

And despite the tabloid headlines he's not just been banned from a pub, he's been tagged and is confined to his home during opening hours, effectively putting him under house arrest for a substantial portion of the day.
