Three men cleared of killing a young Welsh soldier after forcing him to run and exercise in 28 degrees heat, his crime was to come back to the barracks drunk..of course the army needs discipline but this judgement means the army gets away with murder and not for the first time, one of the guys cleared came out of the courtroom smiling smugly. At a time when our armed forces are under intense scrutiny this judge should have found these bullys guilty of manslaughter at least....it is 2008 after all and you would think that beating the fuk out of young soldiers because its tradition is a  tad out of date.

No i think it's been swept under the carpet. That is one strange place, I used to support the services school network on the site, and most of the squaddies seemed to be slightly unhinged scousers, who would jump out on you with machine guns pointed. scared the life out of me on more than one occasion. I think they may be winding it down now as the school closed last year.

its not that simple - our army has gone soft and they sign up for discipline - I'm not saying that its right or wrong but I think its too hard to judge from the outside

Leefer, with all due respect you need to have heard all the evidence before making this statement, The soldier in question had been found guilty of being late for parade on numerous occassions, AWOL, drunk and disorderly, assualt and had been taking a large amount of ecstasy tablets the weekend of his beasting. It doesnt make what happened right but there are two sides to every story. Beasting is a punishment that most soldiers accept rather than the alternative and is and always will be part of army life.

Doesn't matter if he was caught raping a badger. If people are going to hand out these punishments they should take responsibility when it goes wrong.

It doesn't do to go round upsetting the military...we don't want a coup.

We haven't had a junta running the country since the 17th Century...and you just need to go to Burford churchyard, to see these boys don't mess about.

You can still see the musket marks there, where Cromwell had 3 Levellers executed for daring to claim democracy within the NMA.

Im not sure what your point is Ben? The 3 soldiers went to a civilian court and were found not guilty and now they face a military investigation so how have they not faced up to responsibility?

I've got some other jobs to do first, ones which I'm putting off. Don't think I'll get around to baking until this afternoon.

Fogster...we invade countrys to try and rid them of some of there bad ways,if i turned up for work pissed and with Ectasy in my blood i dont expect to be murdered...you havnt responded to the points about Deepcut ....4 deaths at least 3 were murder, the people running our armed forces are bulleys and ALWAYS get away with these cowardly beastings.....and we are meant to be showing the infidels how to treat there population.....theres no excuse and along with the other incidents like the Iraqi guard who was beat to death just shows how fuked up our armed forces are...do you expect the military court to differ from the civilian one....we know the answer to that.

Murder implies they plotted and went through with killing someone. It wasn't anywhere near that cold.

I think it's a difficult dilemma. How else do you punish mistakes, especially repetitive ones? If you're out on duty one of those mistakes could cost more lives.

Quite frankly you'd have to be fucking stupid to take ecstasy if it's likely you'd have to do physical activity in the heat at some point following this.
