Especially the one which was upturned on the pavement by the postbox on the corner of maidstone and hythe road. Pulling that out of my heel was not the most pleasant of today's experiences. Not much more than a trickle of blood which has stopped now. So know harm done. Probably.

Wish I'd taken a picture now, it looked pretty cool sticking out of my foot. Can't be too down on myself as it wasn't the priority at the time.

I hope you've had a recent tetanus. I'd check with your GP just in case. Lockjaw's a bitch

I was thinking the same...that's what you get by tempting fate, posting that you haven't been to a doctor for x number of years.

You have to worry Ben where it hurts as I fear his apathy will stop him going to the quacks:

Ben, if you don't go to the Doctors there is a possibility you'll never be able to drink alcohol again.

Argh! I might wander round to the NHS walk in centre tomorrow.

I never claimed it was the rust that caused the problem. But you've got to assume that a rusty nail lying about on the ground in the street is likely to be none too clean.

So, the article suggests just because it's rusty it doesn't have to lead to Tetanus, but also suggests it's dirt which causes the problem and in all likelihood a rusty nail on a path is not likely to have been sterilised anytime recently.

Ben, your foot is about to fall off, which will prevent a decent walking pace, which in turn will lead to delays in obtaining alcohol from shops, cupboards, fridges etc.  You need to get it amputated properly I reckon.

It's also going to be really difficult to drink if you're jaw is seized shut.

He could be like that Oscar Pretorious fella, and then could get to the shop even more quickly.

Nice of you to reiterate that point for people who have a phobia of clicking website links. Do you reckon there is a name for such a phobia? I'll buy Ben a pint if he can find it out.

I think Tetanus may be the least of Ben's worries though, if the nail was bloody, he could have caught something a load worse. Probably AIDS.

I think it's a bit like saying that chewing gum whilst smoking gives you cancer.

Although a rusty nail, due to it's rough, un-even surface may make a good breeding ground for bacteria. Certainly more so than a smooth nail.

my brother got mrsa in his lower leg just below the knee in the bone from a routine day surgery operation, after about 30 operations several bone and skin grafts over about 2 years it started to settle down. anyhow a couple of weeks ago he was in his shed he knealt down on a rusty nail he didn't know it was there as he has no feeling in his knee he only discovered it whe he saw a pool of blood on his kitchen floor. it took surgeons 4 hours to get the nail out and has got mrsa again. thats a rusty nail story. Doh
