Anyone got any idea who the championship left back mentioned here might be?

Quote
MAURICE Malpas believes a Championship left back could solve his growing transfer market frustration - but he has warned his target the unearthing of a new "Miguel" could yet change his plans.

The Town boss revealed an unnamed left sided player who has been released by his Championship employers this summer is due at the County Ground upon their return from Austria, but admits a current ankle injury could yet result in plan C.

While Malpas's plan B, after missing out on Wolves's Charlie Mulgrew, does not board the plane for Austria due to injury, Ghanian defender Akwasi Oduro will attempt to force his name into the Town frame.

Malpas admits an impressive tour from the KSK Beveren player would put him at the front of the queue, pointing to the emergence of Miguel Comminges last campaign as proof hidden gems' can be found.

Malpas also revealed Town had been in contact with former County Ground favourite Sol Davis's agent but insisted things had gone no further.

A Championship winger is also set to join the Robins on loan early next month as Malpas continues his efforts to build his squad for a promotion push.

He said: "We are talking to a full back who was at a Championship club last year but is recuperating from an ankle operation.

"We wanted to get him involved in some training but he wasn't at that stage. We are chatting away and the biggest problem is gauging his fitness.

"Until we know everything is okay, I am loathe to talk about facts and figures. When I come back hopefully we can start talking.

"Oduro is coming though and if he does impress then it is the other player's bad luck. If he matches the standard we think we need and settles in here the other boy might never get a chance to come."

Oduro, currently playing his football in Belgium, will meet Town at Munich airport tonight after being brought to Malpas's attention by an agent.

"We have seen a short DVD but I have never seen a bad DVD from agents," said Malpas. "That is the thing now. We are sitting ploughing through DVD of foreign players. There are a lot of foreign players available.

"We have looked at players from Poland, France and Belgium. Some get 10 minutes, some get an hour before the DVD is thrown off.

"Oduro is in the same vein as Miguel, noone knows much about him but he is desperate to come here and do well and prove himself.

"The miguel's of this stage are important to clubs like this.

"It is easy to sell a big name to fans but they don't always work out."

Davis won't be coming here by the sound of that. So basically it's this guy from Belgium or another CCC LB at the moment.
