Southend fans seem to think that their club has upped the bid for Mulgrew and he has accepted personal terms just down to Wolves agreeing a fee.

The player surely wouldn't be able to talk to another club until a fee has been agreed anyway

Buh.

Luring Ritchie Jones was always going to be an uphill task when an SPL team and a L1 team closer to his family came in for him

Luring Charlie Mulgrew was always going to be an uphill task as he was in talks with a club he enjoyed a successful loan stint last season.

Josh Low is wanting a longer contract offer - so we may miss out on him too.

These are all lame excuses but I think they're valid to a degree. Such is life - as long as Malpas has other targets then all will be fine.

Quote from: "Maurice Malpas on OS"
Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas has confirmed the club withdrew their contract offer for midfielder Ritchie Jones.

Jones signed for League One Hartlepool United rivals on Friday afternoon although Malpas confirmed the club were at an advanced stage of negotiations to bring the player to The County Ground before Town ended their interest.

"There was a lack of eagerness on his part. I had to pull the plug because we just didn't get a response.

"It is his prerogative to choose where he goes and he has done that.

"All I will say is that he showed a lack of urgency to come here and that's not the type of player we need here. He didn't get back in touch and that's where our interest ended."

Wolverhampton Wanderers Charlie Mulgrew

The manager has also given the latest on a move for Wolves defender Charlie Mulgrew over a move to The Robins.

"Negotiations are continuing. We have agreed a fee with Wolves and that is thanks to a lot of work by our Chairman, Andrew Fitton.

"I would expect I will be spending my weekend speaking to the player and the agent and see where we go from there."

Interesting how we apparently pulled the plug. Still a long way to go on the Mulgrew deal too.
