I'm disappointed (but obviously not suprised) the Advertiser have gone with this - Mulgrew has already played for Southend thus making it more than a possibility that he'd opt for them - which allows above their station fans to get on Malpas' back for missing out on players to teams like Southend.
Was is Malpas that capped him at U-21 level?

I think it was Rich.
The Adver went with this as the Wdp and radio wilts were already going with it.

Yeah was a bit silly.Southend are close to signing though but at least it shows the type of player we are after.

Cheers. Well then, I guess I am disappointed with the media generally If somebody says "we are looking at a championship fullback" of course the media will go looking for the full story. It's what they do!

I'd strongly suspect this is one of those cases where the media have all gone with this story because they've been given a nod and a wink as to who it is we're after. That in itself would indicate a degree of confidence on our part that we've all but got him, given how close cards have been played in other cases

I see that hes more of a left midfielder than a full back and played a fair few games for the Wolves reserves in that role as well, the Wolves fans on their forums are all saying his best position was left midfield as well.....maybe hes to add a bit of steel to the midfield when we play away from home with little Ant MacNamee dropping to the bench for the away games?
On the other side of things...I see hes another big bloke at 6'3" so if he does play at fullback with Kanyuka, Ifil and Amankwaah then we will have a huge back four this season.

On the subject of left backs, i've always wondered why aljofree was never tried there. He's played there in the past, he likes getting forward, hes not exactly a mug when he's got the ball at his feet and it wont matter as much when he goes bullocking off after an unwinnable ball.

The only reasons to drop Vincent imo are due to lack of pace and distribution Aljofree would offer us nothing better in that position.

On the plus point...if we do get him the Wolves fans say he is a fantastic long range free kick taker.
It does seem that Southend are still favourites for his signature though.

Southend fans seem to think he's signing on Friday. Considering Wolves are waiting for us to bid I find that unlikely, although they still seem ultra confident he'll be there's.
