I like it in one way and not another tbh. He's basically saying that there should be more English players playing in the Prem and he's right. But he's also saying "Hang on, English clubs are dominating Europe. We can't be having that now can we?" bet he wouldn't care if it was Spain or Italy. Or maybe i'm just being too harsh. Is he also suggesting English players are crap? OK now i am being harsh

From that article he appears to be aiming it solely towards the Prem, which would be wrong wrong wrong, although there may well have been some "Selective journalism" in that article.

If it applies only to the Prem then it's a huge big fuck-off Blatter you cunt thing. But if it applies to all leagues then ya can't disagree with the chap really.

I think the EU will block it. Surely they won't let any EU resident football palyer to be blocked from employment because of their nationality. Dangerous precedence to set. I'd imagine there would be legal challenges even if it does.

I can see both advantage and disadvantages to this proposal if it does somehow go through.

there has to be other ways of encouraging youth development. I would love to see more English players throughout the English leagues, but if I know how to make it happen.

EU cant block it. Its not saying you cant employ them, just that you cant play them all at the same time

Dont think this will help at all.  Mediocre english players who currently play in the championship getting games in the premier league to make up the numbers will not make England a better national team.

The focus should be on the coaching youngsters recieve.

To some extent I agree that the "six and five" rule is a good idea, but IF it is limited to the Premier League he can stick it up his arse  Cheesy

That's a questionable point.

After all if the law allowed me to employ as many other EU nationals as I liked but said that 50% of the staff in my (entirely fictional) shop at any one time had to be UK nationals that would be a restraint on trade. It would, by neccessity, make me employ some people just because of their nationality. Which ain't supposed to happen

Well said. The whole point of the legislation was to enable completely free movement of labour, and by setting quotas for native employees youa re creating a barrier to employment and therefore restricting movement

It would be fantastic to have 6 English players in every team.

No chance. Deluded he even thinks it is possible.

Agree with SW.

The EPL is quite content with it's current set-up, but you only have to look down the leagues to see that it's a happiness based on greed and doesn't benefit professional football in this country.

Blatter in.
