I believe that if you hand in a transfer request, you have to give back your contract signing on fee or something similar. Not sure if that's a standard clause, but certainly that's what I'd heard about the Andy Carroll thing. That and they wanted him to hand one in so that Ashley wouldn't look like a huge twat to all the Newcastle fans (bit late now)
