I would be amazed if we started going around throwing bids of half a mill + around.  That doesnt sem to chime very well with the sensible fiscal managment of the club.

I can't see us offering £600k for a 26 year old striker who has a goal ratio of less than 1 in 5. Not when there are strikers such as Pericard (1 in 6) available on free transfers and plenty of talent in non-league that are worth a risk.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be at all surprised by us offering £600k or more for someone like Danny Ward.

Jonny, there is no way we'd offer 600k for anyone. We simply cannot afford that kind of money.

Honestly, the  next person who copies and pastes something off that rumours site here, is going to get a big kick in the bollocks.

We can afford whatever Fitton & co are willing to spend. For the right player (which primarily means someone that is a good investment and likely to generate a decent return within a few seasons) at the right price I reckon they'd come up with the cash. We made a couple of £250k offers last summer, so why not one £600k this summer?

Some twat posted on there that Forest had already signed Austin. Unless they've signed someone else called Austin.

£600k on Danny Ward would be good business. £600k on Walters is frankly ludicrous.

Why oh why do people say stuff like this as is if they know it to be a fact.  You have no idea what we can afford. As jonny said, AF will spend what they see fit to spend on the right player. You may well be right, they're probably not prepared to spend that much at this level. But you can't state it as FACT!...unless your real name happens to be Jeremy Wray Hmmm

Think we could afford this easily, true or not.  Fees now are hardly ever paid in one hit, always have add ons and sell on clauses so the total fee will be this. A 600k transfer may only result in 250k to 300k initial payment.

Well, yes, but then the fee wouldn't be £600k. A lot of people seem to suggest we would be able to pay that kind of money for a player when actually it's a very large proportion of our turnover. Given that the club is still a long way off making any profit, it's pretty logical to assume we can't afford that kind of money.

You see, that statement's fine. That's much better than saying, "we simply cannot afford that kind of money", as if it's a cast iron fact.
