If we sign Rose we won't be signing Sheehan as well when we've got cover in Kennedy and LJF.
you mean just Kennedy? LJF isn't a left back

I didn't say LJF was a left back, I said he can cover at left back. Wilson made it clear last season he was happy with LJF at left back and didn't need to get anyone else in when Sheehan and Kennedy were out.

I think Wilson saying that was more for LJF's benefit than anything else.

LJF at left back is a liability. we saw this several times last season. Centre back yes, left back cover no.
would rather go 3 at the back.

If Wilson thought he was that big a liability at left back he'd have got cover in, but he didn't.
I think some people need a reality check about the players we can get. Lucas, Sheehan, Douglas, Prutton, Rose et al aren't going to come here to be second choice and as a club we aren't going to pay the wages they command if they won't be playing every week.

You say that Jonny but Fitton and Wilson have also said they would take Ferry back in a shot.So that would leave 5 players fighting for the 2 spots in the middle.Ferry,Douglas,Prutton anyone of those 3 would be on the bench wouldn't they.

It's a bit different in midfield. Prutton can play anywhere, I can see him playing on the right at the expense of McGovern or maybe even on the left. Some games we will want a stronger midfield (Douglas & Prutton), some games we'll want a more attacking midfield (Ferry & Douglas or Prutton). You want and need options in midfield whilst at left back you have a first choice who will play every game they are available.

You also need players that are capable of pushing the 1st choice and then when they lose form / get injured / suspended have a fight on their hands to regain their place - competition for places is the name of the game

Exactly.
Strength in depth is where we struggled at times last season.

I think we'll struggle to have real strength in depth, becuase our wage bill is not in the top 6/8 of the division. A quality first eleven with above average cover supplemented by quality loan players is what is more likely. Ferry signing would be a big suprise now in my eyes.

Why would we play anyone at the expense of JP? One of the first names on the team sheet for me.

You can't know that for definate. It may be that going so close last season, this one might be worth taking a bit of a punt on by the board. Indications are that we will be very competitive.

the board will not take a punt on spending to get promoted, they have said that. And my comments regarding our budget are from Fitton interviews last season. Thats why we take so many loan player as we pay only a fraction of their wages. i suspect our top earners do well but we just cant afford a lot of them.
JP is on my team sheet every time as well
