i dont think we are in a position to be taking a gamble, we need a proven goal scorer
Yeah, cos Cox was a fucking goal machine before he came to us, wasn't he?

Thing is though....every new signing is a gamble, look at Thorpe and Cureton, both proven goal scorers who did fuck all with us.
Looking further back....Ian Muir on loan.....looked fucking wank and went on and scored 180 goals for Tranmere after leaving us.
Thing is with Akinde hes scored 18 goals in 53 games, almost exactly the same ratio of goals to games that Theo Robinson has.
I think all the proven goalscorers have either gone or are not available/affordable.
I feel our new striker will be a loan signing with no previous proven record.

'Proven goalscorer' doesn't guarantee goals - see Cureton, J. and Thorpe, T. In fact, arguably our two best strikers this decade had rather poor previous records when out on loan from their parent club.

Akinde is an excellent shout. Served his apprenticeship in the conference and scored for fun at Wycombe

It's worth remembering that when Cox came as an unknown, we did have Corr, Roberts, Peacock, Sturrock and then Paynter at the same time. So an untried player could have a bit of weight lifted from his shoulders....in the present situation we do need somebody with a bit of experience, as well as if necessary a couple of untried strikers.

Surprised we weren't in for James Scowcroft, who has just signed for Leyton Orient.
Never been prolific, but his experience, all at a higher level, would have been most beneficial.

Think DW has made it clear he wants a fast nippy striker to play off a big man..who is Paynter obviously..will do well at Orient i think though, good signing for them i think.

They've also signed that Patulea who was a bit of a cult hero at Lincoln. They could be alright this season Orient. I see Martin Ling could be the new manager of Cambridge United, he's currently doing scouting with Hibs.
