Bid accepted for Ameen from Norwich

Good. Don't trust the dinosaur to actually develop him so may as well use the instant cash injection to improve his poorly assembled squad.

It's always a shame to lose a youngster but he wasn't technically 'one of our own' and he'd have gone for a pittance in a tribunal.

"a wonderful young man with fantastic parents". Isn't that what Holloway said about Ameen? And then comes out and says "he didn't do what I asked him"? So,that's it then? Out in the cold because of one game? Thought Holloway was the master of man management

More waffle than a Belgian food festival that bloke.

Getting Grant Hall vibes.  34 yr old defender to save the day in his final season.

This is one hell of a depressing day to be a fan of Swindon.  Can't believe all the pre-season excitement (first time in a long time) has gone.  Just don't believe in Holloway.

Ameen is a superb talent. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he became at least a championship regular one day.

However, he's not really a loss to the squad in terms of what he's produced for us so far.

What's he started? maybe 2 or 3 league games ever?

A few decent cameos.

It was more about what Ameen COULD be for us and not what he's done so far.

Players lose their way. Not writing him off before he has signed and kicked a ball.

Oh yeah, I don’t want to write him off. I’d love it if he became an absolute rock at the back, but I feel like we’ve seen this signing so many times before. Aging CB, experienced, decent cv, slightly injury prone - ticks all the boxes.

Whilst not writing him off this is my general concern. When did we last sign a Mid-30’s player that really made a difference and didn’t just end up a disaster?

You could probably argue Baudry, but ever he was 2 years younger when he joined and was obviously out injured a lot as well.

We just seem to have a terrible record with this sort of signing.

Don’t think we’ve seen it as much in recent years. Under Clem the only two experienced CB’s signed have been MacDonald and Hall. MacDonald was part of the best back 4 we’ve had since being back in L2 (until Clayton got injured). Hall was a huge failure for sure, however the type of player we need is harder to find so you have to take a punt. Tafazolli managed to complete 14 full games in 2025 so he shouldn’t be way off it. Grant Hall didn’t play a single 90 minutes the season before he joined us.

Fair point, but different type of player as it was all about his passing and set pieces. I’m just thinking of Hall, Zakuani, Lancashire, Robertson and the like.  Will depend whether he still has legs I guess.

Might work, might not work - but we won't know until he has signed and plays games for us.

Matt Taylor did alright

Big difference though, Matty Taylor played in the PL for years, whereas Tafazolli's top level is 35 games in the Championship.

Like i said im certainly not writing him off, i want him to do well, but it's just a signing that comes off a bit desperate.
