I think it definitely comes down to laziness and just incompetence. I don’t think Holloway would have had any say over the fixtures, just the training ground games. He said himself after Melksham that he would’ve ideally liked a Championship side before Walsall.

I think most clubs play local non league teams in pre season (and use a mix squad not always their 1st team), its to help out the smaller local clubs, but then they organise games again bigger and better opposition also.

I think thats the norm everywhere now, plus most of the 'big' teams feck off to the other side of the world to play games (whilst moaning about there being too much football which has removed the scope for the one 'big' friendly we seemed to have each year.

Or were the lack of home games something to do with the stewarding costs and the lack of safety certificate too?

Who knows, albeit I suspect that giving the new pitch a few more weeks as was suggested will hopefully be a positive come the winter.

Can't be arsed to go find it again but it was confirmed before any friendlies were announced that there'd be no home ones to help the new pitch bed in. And considering they didn't get started on that until mid July a good thing too.

Are we rumoured to sign a safety certificate? How long is the contract? What did its previous club's fans say about it?

I just hope that we dont need any concreting done at the CG or we may get a Jimmy Hoffa scenario in the future what with Hart and Austins connections.
