Perfection is not attainable

Underwhelming.
I think we have to come to terms with the fact that we are no longer a big name so cannot attract known names, we are probably in the bottom 50% of budget and wages in the whole of League 2 now.

We need to be aware that we will be less likely to sign any player with a semi decent career now they will almost all (barring 1st 11 players) be squad padders and youngsters or players with a long injury list.

I would suggest this is tied to our extended duration in the bottom tier. When in league one you are high enough to pick premier league youngsters who are more than complete unknown u23's, or championship reserve players that have a played some championship games, and or well performing players in league 2 or national league. When you shift that down to league 2, its far less likely you are going to get excited about championship youngsters, or league one reserves etc.

Its an unfamiliar position for us, but has become the norm because of Clem.

Also its part down to manager and Stategy, i think as Morsehead said on LOSpod, Holloway is building a functional hard working team, without invidivual talent. Largely because of money.

I hear what you are saying but I think a conscious decision was made by Holloway to use the limited budget on existing players, in the hope that they’ll all be upgraded versions of the 24/5 versions because they’ll have spent more time together. Better the devil you know.

I’d love us to pull a Louis Reed/Jonny Williams type signing out - the type that you’re surprised at, because they’ll have been in demand. All that means is getting a player that we’re surprised has dropped down from L1 to L2. But I doubt the budget is there for that.

So we’ve got to hope the remaining signings are Yaser Kasim style unknowns, rather than reserves that make no impact. Holloway is no fool. There’s no harm looking at the likes of Mussa and Rose, but he knows they’re not the ones likely to shift the dial, based on their past records, but he may just see something. Long way to go until the window shuts.

I think we've done bloody well to get Josh Tabor in on trial. Even if he has other clubs lined up, we surely have a head start on them...

Getting some decent reports, surely worth a chance. Especially with all the social media hype around him, only has to semi-perform and a sell on at profit would be on the table.

Looks a far better prospect that Rose or Mussa.....interesting to see what other trialists come through the door.

TBF nobody really thought Kirkman was much of a prospect just a padder for the youth/backup side until we saw him play.

I keep an open mind on all tirlaists until I see them in the flesh and how the play in semi competitive games.

I would be happy to see a shitload of trialists come in and try for a contract. Rose and Mussa both have the advantage of playing at a higher level than Tabor has so far.

But thats not anything against Tabor as I think you can't teach a striker to be a poacher, you can just improve the rest of his game and he will have the natural insticts of a goalscorer already. He will need careful nurturing, which I think Ollie will relish bringing him on as a footballer.

I noted Kirkman at the pre season friendly at Melksham last year. Was the stand out player for me.

Got a diamond here.
