Perfection is not attainable

« Reply #63675 on: Saturday, June 21, 2025, 10:15:02 »

I remember Peter Coyne getting a hat trick for England Schoolboys v West Germany in 1974. I remember it as it was live on TV and it was such a big deal to have any kind of live football in those days. Apart from that it was the Cup Final and a few (not all) England games. Hard to imagine now..

Recalling this makes me feel very old!
Coyne actually scored 2 hattricks for England Schoolboys while at United.

Based on nothing at all I reckon it's about Ameen. Probably trying to start a 'bidding war' (even though they can sign him for nada)

Probably Tabor

He's going to have loads of suitors.
But we surely have a head start if he's agreed to come to us for a trial. And let's not underestimate Holloway's persuasive powers which I suspect are considerable especially where young players are concerned...

Yeah, hopefully if he does look good amongst our group we'll be in with a shot.  He's someone I'd been hoping we could take a punt on but expected to be behind other teams.

He really is exactly the kind of player we should be giving a trial to though. If he was on trial at some other club we'd all be saying....."why's it never us giving these players a chance?"...or words to that effect....so credit where it's due. It may not work out or some other club might come in and poach him....who knows? but we've done the right thing and it's all we can do at this point. Credit where it's due...

I'm all for the trial, absolutely.

His goal record is astonishing, no denying that.

However, he's been playing in the 9th tier.

9 to 4 is some leap.

We probably wouldn't even send our kids to tier 9 on loan.

But there’s no downside to him being on trial. If Olly thinks he has something he’ll get offered a deal. If he doesn’t he won’t.

Nixon's article is about Swindon wanting 2 strikers.

No idea about content of said article.

Did Westley do enough to justify that? I don't think so. He seemed very much last choice for most of his spell with all the others getting more game time.

We need something different in that front three, ideally some pace in my opinion.

I really did see something in him. Mostly as an option when he came off the bench. In games he started, I don’t think he impressed, but when he came on, I always thought he looked useful.
