I think the comments that he won't ever make it in the EFL are wide of the mark.
If Ellis Iandolo can become a mainstay in a league 2 team, absolutely no reason why Jake Cain can't.
He might have to change to a left back full time, but he absolutely has the ability. Certainly more than Ellis had.

Iandolo is streets ahead of Cain in my opinion.

Iandolo has a bit of physicality about him. You can get along in L2 with a bit of skill and a bit of physicality but if you only have one then you're in trouble.

He's 4 years older. I'm also not denying Iandolo is currently better. However, if Jake Cain was a starting left back for a top half league 2 side in 4 years time, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. That's all I'm saying.

I don’t get all the Landolo praise always thought he was a bloody shockingly bad player no pace - defensive awareness was poor cost us the goal at home to Port vale in the play offs and they targeted him in the game at their place as they saw him as the weak link and both goals in the second leg came from his side. I think he’s been very lucky to play in the EFL & probably better players in the National League than him - I just don’t get it why people rate him.

I thought he started to look decent in the Garner year. Limited but ok.
But at the point he left he was unreliable injury wise.

Home leg goal was all on Conroy - going down injured to waste time. That left Iandolo & Baudry with an extra man to mark.

It’s all very well saying Iandolo was rubbish, but, I don’t recall us being blessed with any better replacements until Kirkman came along.

I do like what I've seen of Kirkman so far but he's played very little and often as a makeshift centre back, I don't think I'd want to go into a season with him as the only option just yet. We really haven't had that many good left backs in modern times really. Since Bodin, has anyone absolutely nailed that position for more than a season tops? We've had plenty of decent RBs in the same time.

Jay McEveley was good. Nobody else really springs to mind.
Think he played centre half a lot as well though.

IMO Iandolo was rubbish, I would take Dion Donohue and FBT ahead of him every day, both here at the same time as EI and both far better defenders, even Rob Hunt was better at LB.

Sol Davis had it nailed down for a while but was unfortunately a mentalist.
Really in recent years not many players have stuck around long term in any position, such is the way of things these days.
