My biggest hope is that we don’t get a key player on loan, who is the recalled in January

I don't see it as that simple, if the player leaves having done really well, with us in the top 3 and thankful he's helped put us in that position then he's done what we wanted.

You can look at how badly it affected Walsall when that striker left last season but they could have been mid table without him in the first place.

The hope is if a loan player does so well that he gets recalled, to go to L1 perhaps, then we're in a decent position ourselves and that puts us in good stead to find a replacement.

I can't see us being in a Doyle/Yates situation anyway as we have the backbone of our 1st 11 in place already (an extra CB maybe), we're more likely to lose a Louis Barry type who should be easier to replace.

Guess my position is to get the best players we possibly can regardless of how many months they may be with us.

I am broadly in agreement.

Although, as you mention, I would absolutely hate for us to be in the same position as Walsall were in back in January where their best player and high scorer was recalled with them being 12 points clear at the top with a game in hand only to miss out on promotion via the play offs. His loss obviously cost them promotion.

Moonraker have a piece with a Leeds U21 commentator saying that Snowdon can play wide as well as in the 10, and that he might even be wing back cover.

Not sure about defensive cover but as I posted when he signed the OS said about his wide attacking versatility.

Snowdon is largely an offensive midfield player, but adds the ability to play wide and is seen as one of the attacking players, having joined Town.

Jake Cain was a weird one. Obviously had talent. Fantastic left foot, but could just never nail down a position. Was he a 10? an 8? neither really. Games often passed him by, but every now and then he'd score from range, or whip in a free kick or produce a great pass.

Ian Holloway was onto something when he tried to shift him to LWB, Similar to what ended up happening with Iandolo.

Cain is what elite academies churn out these days, really two types that we see discarded once they cannot hit the right level.  Either good on the ball but unable to actually get into the men's game which is more hectic and physical, or full of pace/athleticism, but never having developed a footballing brain or technique.  Those elite academies can afford the fallout, because the one who does make it each year is worth a fortune in the future when it comes to the financial rules these days.

It begs the question about the worthiness of clubs below the top flight even investing in youth anymore - elite academies will consume all the potential talent and spit out enough failures that scraps can be fed off.  The challenge then is being able to identify the ones who can make it after being chucked overboard if you go for younger players, or simply working through the been there and done it's.

Cain like many youngsters at the beginning of their careers probably hasn't benefited from having 8/9 different managers in 2 years either

He's also just not good enough.  Hope he makes his way in the game at some level but not in L2.

In a 3-4-3 I see Snowdon as cover for either side of Smith. Cain was a weak midfielder in a couple of teams full of lightweight weak midfielders (Excluding Ofoborh). I can only see Snowdon in the 10 role if we play it, definitely not in an 8 or 6.

Agree, he just never seemed anywhere good enough to be a 1st team regular.

When he arrived from Liverpool we were told he was a deadball specialist, in his 3 years with us I dont think he took more than 5 or 6 free kicks and only 1 direct free kick that went in vs Crawley last game of the season.

If he was that good at free kicks why didnt any of his managers utilise that? his corners were mostly awful when he took them.

He will probably go on to have a solid non league career but hes just not good enough for L2.

Released. Don't think any of our released players have a new club just yet, do they?

Oh right, cheers Nemo...yeah, don't like to slag players off too much as they're only human but he was a waste of space really wasn't he? In terms of recent players I'd put him along side the likes of Jayden Mitchell Lawson and Tyrese Shade. They were just... there. You could never think of anything they actually contributed to a game. Once he's he's found his level he'll probably have a decent career. Good luck to him.

His touch was fantastic. Scored one great goal from outside of the box that showed his technique was miles above most players, but outside of that there wasn't a lot there.

Too small to be DCM, not quick enough to be a winger and not creative enough to be a 10/AMC.
