At what stage do we come to the conclusion that Sandros recruitment is better than Russell’s?

I always maintained there was nothing wrong with Sandro's recruitment.
If he was never given a platform to speak he'd be remembered quite differently I feel.
Somebody had to be the fall guy as far as Clem was concerned. And it was him.
Distracting from the main issues.

I think Russell gets a bit of free pass because I think a lot of people are of the opinion (rightly or wrongly) that other people have their hands very firmly in the recruitment pie…

I agree, we have had way more shite fullbacks than Gareth Edds! although Edds wasnt very good too.
This is what it is all about, ranking shite fullbacks. What about Des Linton? To be fair to Gareth Edds (just looked back on Wiki) he was obviously thought better of at other clubs like Bradford, Franchise and Tranmere than I did. Plus he played more games for us than I originally thought. Apologies Gareth.

Also the last January Window we were under an embargo thanks to another Clem admin error. I think it was Wellens that said something along the lines of a 60% hit rate on Transfers was acceptable, and I'd argue that Russell has probably got pretty close to that BYCROFT, GLATZEL, McCARTHY, ELBOUZEDI, DRINAN, McGURK, OFOBORH, CLARKE, DELANEY, LONGELO, SMITH, SOBOWALE, WRIGHT, HALL, KILKENNY, BARDEN & COX are all at least league 2 level. As for Sandro, it felt like his signings were made with young & potential in mind. If he had (or been allowed to) signed a few experienced players as well he may have been viewed differently

When you say at least league 2 level, you mean could play league 1? Question, how many of these get in Wellens title winning team? McCarthy (when he first joined, not post Gunning) Wright Cox (only because LB was a problem and its not hard to be better than Iandolo. Though i thought Donohue was great) I think thats it for me. I was thinking about this myself recently regarding Kilkenny. He's perhaps the best of our midfield, with potential and pedigree. Does he play instead of either Doughty or Grant? Does he play ahead of a fit Lyden when we played 3 of them? Not sure honestly.

The problem with Sandro’s recruitment was it was all the same type of player. Whoever decided that was the way to go (whether that was Sandro, Lindsey or other) got that bit wrong but the signings relative to the criteria were alright

League 2 has 24 teams. Being 'league 2 level' is a ridiculously broad brush. Which of those has shown themselves to be a top end League 2 player? Wright yes. Maybe Kilkenny maybe. The rest not a chance. The odd good game is the stuff of bottom end league 2 player, not a tick in the success box. Going back to the Sandro days, and off on a tangent, the freezing out of Louis Reed was ludicrous. Our best player the season before, and now one of the best midfielders in League 1. I wonder whether that was Sandro, Lindsay or one of the lads behind the scenes behind it.
