Pete O’Rouke confirms a bid for Gavin Kilkenny has been made for a loan
Shame it’s a loan, however a great signing for the level.

I assume he'll play instead over Cotterill, in that DM role? It's a shame it's only a loan but this is the sort of quality of loan i prefer over Cotterill-type punts.

I don't know who he is. What an I missing in his 'wiki' stats that make him that? Not trying to write him off. Just know nothing about him to get either excited or dispondant

Bournemouth fans say he has had a few great games for them, was one of the "next big things" but he has never fulfilled his promise. Looked like Messi in a friendly against Lyon few years ago. Thought we had a future gem. Hope he gets a successful move and some game time.
I remember at the beginning of 21-22 season, his passing was incredible. The opposition wised up to it, though and caught him out. Trying to think of a player with an amazing pass but not strength who is basically shielded by others in midfield?
Seems to have some natural ability/potential about him. Just needs some experience and momentum.
It seems he’s just not cut out at that level for whatever reason . League1 at best unfortunately. Defo needs to go to a club to play .
The only real comparison I can think of is a "no nonsense" fullback who puts in crunching slide tackles. Fans love to see it but actually what's more difficult and more helpful to the team is instead of conceding a defensive throw in from every tackle, if he wins the ball staying on his feet and manages to pass his way out of danger. The consequence of this is that he makes fewer tackles and also sometimes misplaces a pass and puts the team under pressure which will lower fans opinion of him. IMHO Kilkenny is the CM version of that.
Looks like he became a firm fixture in the starting team for Fleetwood after his loan, but couldn't help them stay up. 24 now, I don't think it's doing anyone any good for him to do anything but find a permanent new home where he can rebuild. I've been banging that drum for a while now, but I don't like this hoarding of players if a team is never going to use them. See the career of Nat Phillips. I hope he does well and goes on to have an excellent career but it feels like a waste of talent to have him getting nowhere near the team at this stage.
Doesn't seem that long ago that he was running central midfield in the Championship?! What on earth is he doing playing for Fleetwood? If he's not going to get a game with us, then suggest we give him a few 5 min substitute games in the Prem and then flog him for a decent fee to a Championship club! soapy tit wank!
Not sure he ever ‘ran the midfield’ for us in some Championship games. Good player but no Ian Bishop
Kilkenny had some great games for us under Parker, however was still only played as a result of injured players IIRC… Didn’t he start the season in the Champ, played quite a few in the absence of (I want to say Lewis Cook) but was soon benched as the others started regaining fitness, which I always thought was harsh on him… For all our praises, he’s spent a considerable amount of time at a variety of clubs across the divisions and barely kicked a ball… Until Fleetwood. You could probably argue that Stoke was a bad fit for him… they are not exactly known for there ball playing CMs (although they also seem to have turned Ben Pearson, also highly thought of by us lot, into one of the leagues worst CMs) but the stats show he didn’t succeed there or Charlton. Maybe a stint (season) running the show in Lg 2 for Fleetwood could get him back on track and earn him a decent move … Deserves to get something other than what his current position is.

If he was properly proven he wouldn't potentially be moving to League Two... League Two players are League Two players for a reason.

You can, but those are the Liam Kinsellas of this world. Or the Aaron Drinans. Maybe (although a bit early to tell) the Will Wrights and Ollie Clarkes. Safer bets, but probably not going to get you promoted single handedly. Maybe this lad has something a bit special, maybe he doesn't. It feels like a higher risk, higher reward option. Our budget clearly doesn't extend to solid L2 players in every position, so it needs a few gambles to come off. We shall see.

Yeah I get that. He could be POTY by December.
All I'm saying is he's unproven, so I'm not getting as excited by it as some. A bit like mcGurk I suppose.
Teams that get promoted do have some known quantities too - as do we TBF.
