We are short
1 goalkeeper
1 creative midfielder
1 winger
1 kemp type player
1 maybe 2 forwards....

Seems woefully short to me

1 goalkeeper (Incoming soon per the Adver)
1 creative midfielder (Yep, but Khan (Assume he can be described as a creative midfielder) is part of the plan per the Adver, what about Caine?  Not clear on their intended roles)
1 winger (In a 3:5:2 setup don't see it, wingback?  We have McGregor as backup for one wingback)
1 kemp type player (There is only one of those, call that a creative midfielder, is loanee, Joel Cotterill that player?  What role is intended for Dylan Mitchell? )
1 maybe 2 forwards....(With Smith, Drinan and Glatzel competing for the two starting places assuming 3:5:2, need another striker, expect one to be signed (one or two rumours), possibly a loanee. Will McGurk play as a striker or creative midfielder, or be a bit of both as a utility player?)

Khan appears to be staying per the Adver don't anticipate a another major midfield signing unless he is shipped out, one of Caine or Uwakwe, or both, would be expected to ship out. I think we will know more by Saturday after the game.

we were no where near our turnover % budget last season and we will yet again be no where near it this season. this fan base is too forgiving and willing to bend over and accept mediocrity. im hoping for more pressure from the trust soon

This. My patience had ran out long ago but some will ve happy with the same routine as last season and more promises about learning lessons.

We are short of a competitive squad, need something extra in midfield and up top, but woefully short?  I think that one or two more decent signings, rather than punts, plus some better luck with injuries and we could be consistently top half. Usually, at this time of pre-season, we are scratching around with trialists and hoping for some decent loanees.  I think, however, at this point we are woefully short of autos though.  Competitive means to me top 10, but not lower than that.
What is a competitive budget, top 3, top 7 or top 10?

They can like it or not, but the expectations for this club of it's owners is a top 3 budget in Div 4.  It clearly isn't that.  I still think we are at least 4 or 5 short right now.  We are relying on a lot of question marked players, even the first XI.  There aren't that many in there who have managed full seasons in the past couple of years.

I guess it depends if you think we should be able to run breakeven and still spend the maximum amount on players.

Mourfuni is brassic in running a football club terms. We seemingly are running at a 1m a season loss.  Promotion allegedly costs him more.

I'm not sure what people's expectations are here.

And without a bit of luck it's going to be like this until he goes.

What role is intended for Dylan Mitchell? )

There's a scouting report on him in the Moonraker today which suggests he's more likely to be part of the deeper lying two than the more advanced one in midfield. Sounds like a bit McEachran-y to me.

He's 18 though, he'll be a regular name on the bench but probably not a starter except in the cups.

I'd say we have a squad or 18 or 19 genuine first teamers so are at least 5 short of that 24 man squad they want.

With 7 days to go, that's not a bad state to be in I reckon.

If we look at last summer (which obviously isn't an ideal model) our permanent signings were:

Kinsella 28th July
UGM 3rd August
Uwakwe 4th August
Genesini 8th August

So in theory at least this could be a big week. Those were the only four permanent signings last summer!

Sadly it seems the first year pros are being counted in the 24 man target according to Russell

Russell did say they are, although we are hopeful of getting them out on loan (at a decent level) and then get replacements in

If they're not out on loan, yes. I wouldn't hate it if there were say, 20-21 'proper' first teamers and then three first year pros, but our balance is wild at the moment, if you do it by first team appearances at league level (from Wiki so may be inaccurate)

Ollie Clarke - 370
Ryan Delaney - 240
Grant Hall - 221
Harry Smith - 204
Aaron Drinan - 177
Tunmise Sobowale - 118
Will Wright - 79 (plus 100+ conference level)
Saidou Khan - 69 (plus 50+ conference level)
Rosaire Longelo - 68
Tariq Uwakwe - 67
Jake Cain - 65
Nnamdi Ofoborh - 36
Paul Glatzel - 36
Harrison Minturn - 20
Jack Bycroft - 19
Joel Cotterill - 9
Sean McGurk - 9
Anton Dworzak - 6
Joel McGregor - 5
Redman Evans - 1
Pharrell Johnson - 1
Sonny Hart - 1
Jaxon Brown - 1
Dylan Mitchell - 0
Miguel Freckleton - 0 (41 conference)

So 10 of 25 with 9 or fewer league games under their belt (Freckleton perhaps misleading as he has played a season in the NL)

When you factor in the current injured/lack of match fit players it'd a bit tight (granted you can't help injuries). Who is 'missing' at the moment for those reasons?

Delaney, McGurk, Uwakwe come to mind immediately and Grant Hall is being 'managed'. I'd like numbers to be bulked a wee bit for the early part of the campaign. It's better than last season, granted.
