Wallocott was decent for us & it was absolute dickhead move by Garner to drop him towards the end of the season…

He was better than Lewis Ward.

I thought it came down to the fact that he wouldn’t sign a new contract, but agreed was clearly a better keeper than Ward

Made it even more baffling when Garner then took him to Charlton with him.

Yes, that’s exactly what is was.

The manager who was already having talks with another club decided to punish the player who decided he wasn’t going to sign a new contract.

The aforementioned manager was so upset by the players lack of commitment that he signed him for his new club a few weeks later…

It is possible that the call wasn't Garners.

I would say this is perfectly plausible

I thought it was because Ward had done a decent job when he'd come in. It's a tricky call for a manager, do you immediately recall the first choice, or should you reward the good performance of the replacement.

1 week away from the first league fixture and we are woefully short of anything resembling a competitive squad.

Seemingly nothing in the pipeline to reinforce that squad....

Is anyone actually feeling positive about the oncoming season?

I'm reasonably optimistic we will avoid relegation.

Does that count?

We are short of a competitive squad, need something extra in midfield and up top, but woefully short?  I think that one or two more decent signings, rather than punts, plus some better luck with injuries and we could be consistently top half. Usually, at this time of pre-season, we are scratching around with trialists and hoping for some decent loanees.  I think, however, at this point we are woefully short of autos though.  Competitive means to me top 10, but not lower than that.
What is a competitive budget, top 3, top 7 or top 10?

We are short
1 goalkeeper
1 creative midfielder
1 winger
1 kemp type player
1 maybe 2 forwards....

Seems woefully short to me

It’s a small squad built for only one formation (352 with wing backs)

We have a decent enough XI to play that.
Depth is not great in places & we really don’t appear to have the scope to change it up.

We are putting a lot of faith in some of the first year pro’s but you know what? Fuck it. Our U18s looked fairly good last season, the likes of Hunt (ok gone now) & McGregor looked more than capable at L2 level. If we aren’t going to get anything out of our first year pro’s this season - then we never will, so ultimately what’s the point?

….and let’s be honest - most of us probably have only seen half our team player less than a handful of times.

It will be interesting to see if there are any trialist on display v Wycombe as Kennedy said that he wasn’t a fan.

I think the "league" budget rule is a % of income rather than a raw number, so if our income went up (and I'm imagining it must be based on the previous year, so the drop in ST holders wouldn't affect it yet) then the same % could be a higher £ figure?

we were no where near our turnover % budget last season and we will yet again be no where near it this season. this fan base is too forgiving and willing to bend over and accept mediocrity. im hoping for more pressure from the trust soon
