because the moment we have 2 or 3 out, that team is going to start looking ropey.

Well, we have Hall, so unless he has a season unlike most of his last few that's 1.
Hopefully Glatzel is past all his issues, and Ofoborh is OK.

No/ idea if this is a blip for Delaney, but no pre-season - he's going to hit the league limping.

Theres still time like you say. I don't know the strengh of other squads to be fair so i really wouldn't know if it is top 7 or not but my first thought is that our strikers have all been promoted and scored goals in this division. Our midfielders have all been promoted and played at a higher level and that our defence have all had promotions bar the wing backs.

I have npo doubt we will see a few loans too. Last season we started with Wakeling, Ward and Brewitt. Wehad Dan Kemp but only hindsight tells us that was good.

I am quietly confident

I will be quietly optimistic as well up until the point they inevitably sell Glatzel.

That will really piss me off.

Not really. But i have a Gills supporting mate and they have recruited 4 or 5 very decent players. Players of a good age with very good goals/assists in the last season or two. On top of what they had last season.

I assume our first eleven is currently

Bycroft
Sobowale
Longelo
Wright
Hall
Delaney
Ofoborh
Cain
Clarke
Smith
Glatzel

So our back up options are

Drinan
Minturn
Johnson
McGurk
Khan (maybe not)
McGregor
Uwakwe

And then the youths...

Not pressing the panic button yet, but that squad is a long way short. 4 or 5 players who can step into the first team are needed (and an improvement for Cain), because the moment we have 2 or 3 out, that team is going to start looking ropey.

Valid points. We need to learn the lessons of last season, when Flynn was just a couple of players down, and the starting XI so short of form but with no options to rotate players out, and no pressure from the bench / squad to push those in the starting XI.

Jamie Russell isn’t stupid. Neither is Kennedy, and for all of the ineptitude in business and lack of integrity, neither is Morfuni. I am almost certain we’ll be dipping into the loan market and will see a squad that corrects last season’s mistakes. We are absolutely not close to it yet. We’re way off - way off having a squad the will compete at the right end of the table, but also way off the transfer window closing. If the budget has “significantly” increased, then we must still have stacks to spend (or they’ve lied)

It's not just last seasons mistakes though, it's two years on the trot, and yes, there is every chance they "lied".  I'm hoping not, but history is a pretty good predictor.

For all the negative hoo haa that built up during last season and rightly so, the season ticket will I or will I not conundrum that fans had to tackle, the fines, etc, etc I personally have little or no enthusiasm to attend. I am struggling with that (a similar malaise to voting at the GE) as it is something I find hard to deal with. Of course I want us to do well, of course I want exciting football, of course I want to see SN1 developed, however, I just cannot get past the current ownership and their perceived modus operandi.

So if I do go, initially it will be away games until I feel comfortable putting my money into STFC. Not having ST last year turned out to be a wise move. Hardly not going another wise move. I see no reason to change at the current time.

I sincerely hope 24-25 is not a cluster fuck because the death knell bells will surely start to toll.

I have a season ticket LL, but also lacking enthusiasm right now..

Suppose it'll kick in if we start well. And at least I'm back in the drs this year.

I think it's down to the feeling we aren't going anywhere. Hopefully that statement will look silly come may when we were top of the league.

We are miles off having a competitive squad in my opinion. There is also no way the budget has been increased when you look at the players gone and who’s come in.

Charlie Austin
FBT
RHM
UGM (For a fee)
Ricky Aguiar (For a fee)
Williams Kokolo
Conor Brann
Tom Brewitt
Tom Clayton
Reece Devine
Brooklyn Genesini
George McEachran
Tyrese Shade
Tomi Adeloye

All of the above have either been released, sold or had their contract torn up.

So far we have brought in 8 players off the top of my head, there is no way our budget has ‘significantly’ increased as we have been told.
I think we have a squad currently that is at least as good as last seasons 1st 11 but I do agree that we need way more strength and as you state we have lost a fair few more players than we have brought in and many of those that left would have been on high(ish) wages.

I would think that Austin, FBT, Dokes, UGM, Kokolo, Clayton, Adeloye, McEachran and Shade would all be on good wages for L2, Brewitt and Aguiar on a decent wage with Devine, Brann and Genesini being on lower wages.

So with our new signings Sobowale, Hall, Wright, Delaney, Longelo, Clark and Smith all would be on a good wage, and Mitchell would be on a similar wage to Genesini probably.

So thats 9 high wages, 2 decent wage and 3 prospect wages going out (14 in total).

And only 7 high and 1 prospect coming in (8 in total) leaving us 6 players down on 1st team numbers if we are comparing directly.

I think we are still at least 4 solid signings away from having a decent squad that can compete.

Khan has never really made a position his own, injury and suspension and position changes haven't helped. But not so much the opportunities haven't come.
Had a look on the Chesterfield forum and one of their fans said this about him.

Quote from: Spireites
He was never first name on the teamsheet, he only started 22 games. Never really found his best position with us, flattered to deceive a lot of the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Devine was on more than you think. He came to us with league experience and with a pedigree from Man Utd's youth academy.

Possibly, but gave him the benefit of the doubt based upon him being permainjured.

I doubt this is completely accurate, but within a margin of error i think these seem fairly accurate.

Its interesting if you look at how little Delaney was on at Newport last season for example.
