Not sure the value in signing him. We have a project in his position already with Johnson.

Maybe Kirkman is better than Johnson?

Maybe Johnston could go out on loan?

Khan has never really made a position his own, injury and suspension and position changes haven't helped. But not so much the opportunities haven't come.

Moreover with recent additions should be even be a starter?

Who is the starter there? I've genuinely lost track.

Johnson is a project. You wouldn't want him as starter just yet.

I think it depends on what position they're thinking of for Johnson. We're all taking it for granted he's a CB, so he'd be Delaney's understudy. However his only appearance for us was LB so then he's behind Longelo. And Gunning talked about him being better there.

However this is the same guy who stated Minturn was best of playing RB as a youngster, so I'm not sure any of us should pay much attention to what he thinks of any player.

I'm going purely off transfermarket.co.uk for this as I've never heard of Kirkman before the rumours.

That states he's a LB, so he could be being looked at as Longelo's understudy if the plan is to use Johnson as a CB.

Johnson has played every pre-season game as the left sided CB. Kennedy has stated he want's his wing backs as attackers first. Johnson is Delaney's back up.

So i just doubt the value of signing another player for that position as a further project. When we are missing backup or projects in lots of other positions.

I dare say Kirkman has been used a bit. It happens in preseason, clubs need players for numbers, it helps the players get fit and put them in the eyes of others as well. I think we needed Kirkman in preseason because of the delay in recruiting Hall and Delaneys fitness.

Not sure i'm bothered about any of the three.

Bostock seems the best, but was deemed surplus to requirements at Notts (i'm told he was a big earner there). As an option in midfield with Khan leaving he seems a decent pick up.

Randall is a big no, not up to it at Notts or Sutton, not good enough for us.

Rowe, never seen the lad. Could be decent enough back up, but honestly with Delaney/Hall injury record, we need a reliable 4th CB. Its not Minturn or one of the younger lads. Does Rowe fill that gap? Not sure honestly.

So yeah i'm a bit meh on all of them.

Its attacking re-inforcements that would make me feel better. A proper creative midfielder thats an upgrade on Cain, and a pacy Striker/Winger type to mix up our options. We then need a second LWB (assuming Uwakwe is off) and a CB thats interchangeable with the 3 we have signed to date.

To say Randall wasn't up to it at Sutton is harsh. It was his performances for Sutton which earned him a big move to Notts County in the first place.

TBF it was his performances for County in the pre season friendlies that won him his move there after being freed by Sutton, where he only managed 10 league games for them, and only 1 start. By the way who is his agent? Wink

I am surprised hes still only 27 and has only ever scored any goals for Sutton.

He could be of use as a squad player but hes not good enough for our first team IMO.

I just had a skim through the Sutton forum for when Randall left them, they seemed to think he had already told the club he wanted to move on so they didn't offer him anything. Very mixed opinions on his ability and lots of comments about him being injury prone.

He was released at the same time as Omar Bugiel who went on to have a decent enough goal return at Wimbledon last year.

I agree, he wont be a starter. He will be someone with a bit of experience to chuck on in the last 20, but saves signing an unproven loan player or a loan whose club would contractually expect to start.

A bit of a meh one for me, but at least its some depth which we have missed badly for a few years.

No point bringing in 27 year old squad players not good enough for the first team. 20 year old sure, they have potential etc. But for me Randall makes no sense to bring in. He is also completely at odds with the type of wing back brought in (Longelo/Sobowale) and they how Kennedy has described that position.

The other 2 have some merits either via age and potential (Rowe) or experience (Bostock).

Anyway lets wait and see.

For me the creative midfield recruit will be crucial, assuming we are looking for one. If you could drop Kemp into this team currently i would dare say i would confident.
