Interesting fact,  if Bostock signs. His first game will be against Chesterfield (maybe) same as his first debut. Hope its not same result!

Bostock pre-dated Power. He was a Di Canio loan signing the same week we got Jay McEveley.

It was very much and firmly a tongue in cheek comment. That and the Spurs/QPR link that continues to follow us around {for better and for worse}

Yeah, I get we aren’t setting up to play with wingers.
Which is exactly why we need wingers - so we can change formation.

Managers don’t have to religiously stick to the same formation all game, every game…

You don't sign players that don't fit into your system.

If we are not going to play with wingers there is no point in signing any.

Most managers will stick to the same system but might tweak certain things now and again.

When doing this you will sign players that can adapt to a slightly different style, but it won't be drastically different.

You can have more than one system.
You can sign players to fit multiple systems.

To be fair I would say we already have the players signed to play 433 & 532.

The point I badly made originally is that I don't think we will see a winger sign who will be pushing to start every game. Just one you could throw on if needed.

I personally don’t think we could play 433 with the strikers we have. All three are central strikers and none of them are really wide forwards. Don’t feel like we have midfielders who could do a job there either. I guess we could go 433 but it would be a very narrow 33 & basically lump it to Smith and get the knocks downs.

I also don’t think we will see a winger sign let alone one who wants to play every game but still feel it’s a positional gap we need to fill within the squad even if it is (likely to be anyway) a squad filler throw on option.

Yes, I agree. McGurk and Glatzel either side of Smith could work, but neither are natural wingers.

Yes there is more than one way of playing football

But a manager builds a team to suit the football he wants to play.

No point in signing 4 wingers if a team isn't going to play that way.

You may have a striker that can play as a central striker and play a bit wider if needed too

As I said the manager will have a certain way of playing and will sign players to fit that play.
At certain he will tweak various things but will probably not drastically change things...

Merging between a 532 & 343 has a logic to it.
Might even be possible to switch in & out of possession.

All depends on how receptive the squad is.
A lack of square pegs in round holes would help.

It's possible that 2 formations albeit related is the maximum that players at L2 level will be able to take on board.

Longelo and Sobowale both can operate as wingers (and have previously done so) which could be an option, but then we wouldn’t have any full backs for a flat back 4.

Interesting that we seem to have 'lost out' trying to sign Devoy, though I suspect it's more 'marketing' from the bohemians boss

Judging from that article, I think he's confusing Devoy with Kemp😉.

If we were that serious about signing Devoy, I'm pretty sure we could / would have out bid Bohemians... pure hype on the part of the Bohemians manager...
