Very impressive. Still massive question marks over the hierarchy at the club, but can’t argue with that signing at all. Lessons (finally) being learnt perhaps?

We put together a decent 8 or 9 players last season though and then when it came to an actual squad, the chequebook went missing.

We were flying until we had to start occasionally doing two games a week and caught a couple of injuries.

Hopefully. Cynic in me says we'll revert to type but we'll see. It's certainly on paper a good start.

"Manager Nigel Clough said: “Ollie been magnificent for the club for the past four years.

“We had just exercised the option in Ollie’s contract and an enquiry from Swindon came out of the blue. It was an opportunity which Ollie wanted to explore and will enable him to move back closer to home. He has a baby on the way, so all-in-all it’s a personal decision and a chance to play some more football.

“He’s been a superb captain both on and off the pitch. Even last year when he didn’t have the armband, he had a great influence in the dressing room and on the field.

“Ollie leaves the club with our thanks and very best wishes. He has been a brilliant servant to the club.”

Seems a decent signing at first glance.

I'm more impressed we've signed a central midfielder with a bit of experience. What kind is he, tough tackler? box to box? attacking mid?
Two Mansfield fans on twitter:

“You’ve got an amazing player on your hands. Strongest tackler in the league, rocket of a shot, outstanding work rate… just some of his attributes”

“ Swindon now have one of the best midfielders in the league. Unbelievable off the ball and could run through brick walls. One of the most consistent players in our promotion run in last season. I am stunned by this.”

"Hard working combative midfielder. Loves a challenge, not scared to shoot and plays with his heart. Definitely gonna be missed in mansfield.

I've heard he wanted to be closer to home"

Sounds great tbh.

Just need another 4 min of this type then we can start adding the young guns around the core

Wow, that actually looks like a signing with a view to getting results not a profit.  Obviously means nothing if not backed up with more experience and quality but it certainly looks to be a good start.  Very early for us to be dipping our toes into the market

Good numbers, too.

On the face of it, a good signing.

I don’t disagree mate, but Clarke, on paper, seems a level above the majority of signings we had last summer (Kinsella etc). No doubt that it’s only a start though. Need much more quality through the door, which I have my doubts over whether we’ll get
