Well that isn't local to South Cerney at all!

Its like the beast of Bodmin many claim to have seen it without any actual proof! We were led to believe he was tying the loose ends up and only a matter of time before the club announced him😆

You can never tell the full story just from the results on the outside, look at us with Lindsey. He won't be as bad as that though, I would imagine.
I agree, as an onlooker we only see perofmances in games we actually watch, either against ous or on tv etc. We cannot gauge a mood at a club based upon watching 3 games a season when they as fans have to suffer it all season long.

As you rightly state Lindseys win ratio at Swindon was 33.3%, Hughes at Bradford is only a bit higher at 40%.

Interestingly Flynns win rate is only 33.3% too currently yet I feel far more comfortable with Flynn in charge than ever I did with Lindsey.

I think the problem with Hughes has been exacerbated in that he has fallen out with a lot of the players, including Young, and Young doing well here after Hughes basically bombed him out (to Barrow and then the youths in the summer) has just reinforced the idea to some that he is a dinosaur with no idea and can't develop the players they have.

That being said, it seems a rather split fanbase at the moment with as many shouting he should go as saying give him time, so we shall see.

We had five in (RHM, Lavinier, Jephcott, Roberts, Brann) two out (McKirdy, Ward) last year.

Says something about the turnover in football that only two of the signings are left at the club and one of the sold players has returned!

I'm expecting two in - one more loan as we have a spot still, hopefully one relatively experienced transfer.

With Wakeling seemingly 4th in the pecking order, would you get him out on loan and bring in another option or do we see Kanu as that 4th choice player who could develop with time coming off the bench?

Wakeling has promise and realistically he should have been in his “development” year last season with us but had to be thrown in so early. I think that whilst having him as an option off the bench is nice, if he’s got Austin, RHM and now Young ahead of him in the pecking order then a 6 month loan to get game time wouldn’t be a bad idea if we could then bring in a larger forward option to take some of the load off of Austin.

I like Kanu and think he has promise as well but he’s in a vital year where he needs consistent minutes (either at U18 level here or out on a development loan)

We shouldn't be loaning Wakeling out, the players ahead of him are Austin who with the best will in the world is not going to play 90 minutes every game, RHM who has quite the injury record and Young who, whilst on red hot form at the moment, doesn't really have the body of work that suggests he's going to stay at that level all season. If we did bring in the "big man" forward that's been suggested, that perhaps changes things, but I think there's a real player in there and I'd hate to see him squeezed out.

Agree but it depends how you see the loan I guess. If we bring another forward in (or even not to be honest) and Wakeling is pushed down the pecking order further and loses any momentum he gained last season from lack of minutes, at that point a loan to keep him getting consistent minutes makes some sense. He can then come back in January and have a better base to force his way back into the picture.

He had a good start to last season but if we’re honest with ourselves, he really faded after that and spent the 2nd half of the season either on the wing or wingback. If he can get a loan somewhere where he will get consistent minutes up front (which it looks like he may struggle to here) and get some goals then he has a better base to try and push his way back into starting contention here rather than trying to do it with little cameos and disrupted momentum.

Would be more than happy to keep him around though.

I think Wakeling needs regular games - we could always recall him if he does a Young or Doyle

We need the cover. If RHM goes down, then he's the bench option.

You can't recall out of the window though (unless it's a lower league loan which seems pointless for his ability). With the Pizza Trophy, Saturday/Tuesday games, Austin's older legs, RHM injury risk, I think he'll still get plenty of game time.

Consistency in minutes is usually the key. Twine was in a similar scenario here, on the fringes and would have got minutes in cup games and cameos but went out to Newport, played every week and his development soared, he likely wouldn’t have developed at that rate if he stayed with us. Albeit with a slight position change as well.

Minturn is in the same boat. Can’t be expected to develop into a first team player with short cameos and disrupted minutes.

Wakeling would be worth getting out on loan - if he was guaranteed minute at a decent level. It would probably have to be in this division to be of benefit.

It would have to be a Twine loan rather than a loan to get him off the books, a loan with a view to get rid or a loan to free up wages to get a loan player in as a direct replacement.

Same could be said for Minturn too.
