I'm going to feel fairly content if we land these two in the next 24 hours.

Recruitment seems to be more based on what the team needs this year.

Sssshhhhhhh people don’t want to hear your crazy talk. It’s far better to have a meltdown, cry and give up supporting Town but carry on checking the forum in dire hope of a shit signing.

These 2?

Got the impression there was still a chance of signing Ryan Edwards too. Him, UGM and FBT as the back three, Hutton and Uwakwe as wing backs, Kinsella, Kemp and McEachran in the middle, Austin and RHM up top.

I could live with that as a first team.

View from a mate of mine who's a Crewe fan

Absolute dross
He was a massive disappointment given his pedigree and us paying a fee for him. Thought he would be our best player last season but he is just so passive, everything goes on around him rather than him impacting the game.

We did offer him a contract though, presumably with an eye to recouping the small fee we paid but it was mutually agreed to let him be a free agent.

Can't think we're planning to play him in midfield so I'm not sure how relevant this is?

Timmy Parkin was one of the best centre backs I've ever seen play for us. He was slow as fcuk but it didn't matter because no one ever got past him.

Edit:back to those rumours....
TBF in his first season with us he was an absolute donkey, but 2nd season he was fantastic.

Here is a bit about Tariq Uwekwa.

It seems he has a lot of talent but hasnt quite fulfilled his potential yet, sounds perfect for a L2 club, even if we are a stepping stone.

Uwekwa nearly moved in January to Sheff Weds after a trial there last season.

https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/sheffield-wednesday-to-in-for-chelsea-talent-say-reports-3524252

Motherwell and other L1 clubs were interested in him

Tariq had 2 games on trial at Reading a couple of weeks ago and payed well in the game vs AFC Wimbledon apprently but has not been offered a deal there. Similar at FGR.

In his earlier days in the Chelsea Academy, Uwakwe helped the Under-18s to a domestic treble of trophies in 2017/18 and also won the Toulon Tournament with England, who he has represented up to Under-19 level where he played LWB and LW for the national side.

He nearly signed for Derby when they were in the Championship in 2020 and previously WBA were interested when Lampard was in charge at Derby.

Who is he?
Born in London, Uwakwe joined Chelsea at the age of eight and steadily climbed the ranks at the club's Cobham training ground.

Breaking into the club's Under-18s side before even putting pen to paper on a deal as a first-year scholar, the central midfielder helped the club's youth side to a league and cup double under boss Jody Morris.

After turning 17 he signed his first professional deal with Chelsea, a deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2022, with an option for a further year.

So far this season he has made seven appearances for the their Under-23s side.

Standing at 5ft10, Uwakwe's best position has floated around the middle of the park during this development.

And so far this season he has played in roles behind the striker, as a box-to-box midfielder and as a holding player.

Chelsea's official website praises him highly for his versatility.

Quote
Uwakwe went out on loan last season, making 15 league appearances for Accrington, where he scored four goals in his first two games after hitting an EFL Trophy hat-trick on his debut against Leeds United Under-21s.

He also scored in the EFL Trophy this season, in his one appearance for Chelsea Under-21s, at Forest Green.

Salford and Stevenage held talks with Uwekwa about a move earlier this Summer.

True, it took a while for him to find his feet which is why I feel that we (i.e fans in general) are far to quick to judge players and write them off. He had some epic battles with Ian Wright during the 88/89 season (I think) when we must have played Palace about 6 times all told...

Oops! Thread derailment once again😂

He's a former team mate of McEachran which may help.

And as I mentioned, this bloke rated him: https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=26089

The other clubs obviously didn’t want them, stop burying your head in the sand.

Leeds U21 in the EFL trophy. The leeds players look about 15, but regardless, good technique from the lad.

Chances of an announcement during Flynn’s presser at 1pm?

Flynn: "We are really close on one." Probably.
