I love how active everyone is at the start of the week, reiterating all the things we have all been saying for weeks now. We each seem to raise the enthusiasm to have a moan again about the state of things early in the week, and by the weekend we have given up.

Maybe this week is different

The question wasn't do you think the current squad will get promoted, it was would you be OK with it being the squad against Colchester. With still a month left, the realistic picture is anybody you sign with quality is likely to be signed late. Ginger Pele, Isgrove, Lyden, Grant, and Benda were all signed from this date forwards in the Wellens season.

I think our current squad as is, right now - could give Colchester a game. Yes.

I was impressed with us in the first half v Bristol City. High press, dangerous going forward and good to watch.

We’re not in as bad shape as people have convinced themselves.

After watching that game I agree, we matched City all over the pitch other than with our defensive frailties.

Our best starting XI is a decent ish L2 side on their day, but the depth outside of that XI is awful. To be a successful side, you need options to turn to off the bench, something we lack massively at the moment. Also have to remember a lot of that starting XI v Bristol City were part of that awful run we had from February-April. They may be better for it, and under Flynn could thrive, but we are still a fair way short of a top 7 side imo. Do agree though, did look good to watch going forwards, hoping we carry more of a threat this season.

I think it has been shown that we have a decent ish starting 11 but more injuries and subs and no competition means we are quite short of players

Nobody is denying we need numbers, but adding a bit of quality in defence to what is a decent existing squad is, to me, a better position than some of the clubs mentioned who have to virtually start from scratch with the number of signings they’ve made.

we are too weak at the back with our starting 11.

This was obvious before the end of last season.

we don't need a team of superstars, the 'cherry on the cake' types that come along at the end of a window.

Our starting XI from last season:

Brynn
Huttton
Brennan
Baudry
MaCdonald
Shade
Gladwin
Reed
Williams
Wakeling
Adeloye

Adeloye is obviously a weak link in that team, and replacing him with Austin clearly makes us better up top.

In midfield we look weaker - I know some will pick a fight, but the experience alone wins the day

In defence, we look weaker, which is saying something given that did not look a good defence by any stretch of the imagination.

Manager looks like an upgrade.

Overall, we look to be going into 2023 with a weaker starting XI, in my opinion.

I agree weaker than last season and expect to be around mid table if we don't sign any quality players. Win a few, lose a few and draw a few as we are now!

If Clayton & Devine hasn’t of gone down injured I’d fancy our current best XI over that one.

Clayton is out for 6 weeks? So that means he should be available a couple of weeks into the season.

6-12 was the range given.

Add on only half a pre-season so it may be a while.
