I was discussing this with someone yesterday - I think the Wrexham/Stockport in League 2 and Sheff Wed (League 1 last year) wage bills are making transfers happen later and later year on year. Players feel that they are worth £8k a week in League 2 because that's what they're on at Wrexham. I would rather wait and pick up the players on a lower wage when they realise that no club is worse than £2k a week.
Yes, I'm sure there is a degree of brinksmanship involved and Flynn has certainly been clear in his comms. As ever, this current 'board' are hoist by their own petard having championed the importance of early business.

Okay, so we are giving the season where we nearly folded a run for its money... that feels a bit concerning! Forgetting that season I wonder what it is..?
I had a quick look back from 2000 and here are some stats. I've taken the date of season kick off and the first permanent transfer and calculated the days between the 2 dates. 2000 - 41 2001 - 40 2002 - 11 2003 - 39 2004 - 37 2005 - 36 2006 - 35 2007 - 32 2008 - 9 2009 - 33 2010 - 33 2011 - 33 2012 - -12 2013 - 32 2014 - 23 2015 - 24 2016 - 36 2017 - 23 2018 - 28 2019 - 8 2020 - 47 2021 - 12 2022 - 25 The average days is a shade over 27. The outlier years out of interest. 2002 - Darren Dykes, Migs and Sam Parkin arrived on the 30th of July, 31st of July and 1st of August respectively. We kicked off on 10th August and finished 10th in Nationwide league division 2. 2008 - We saw no movement until Lilian Nalis was signed on 31st July. We kicked off on 9th August and finished 15th in Coca Cola League 1. 2012 - oddly for a Di Canio season we didn't sign anyone permanently until Fede Bessone was brought in on the 30th August which was 12 days after the season kicked off on 12th August. Something doesn't feel quite right about these stats somehow! Anyway, we finished 6th in NPower league one and lost the play-offs to Brentford. 2019 - Apparently we didn't bring anyone permanent in until 26th July when Jordan Lyden was signed. The season kicked off on 3rd August and we were champions on a technicality.

Yeah think that must be off. Didn’t we sign Troy Archibald Henville, Gary Roberts, Tommy Miller, James Collins and Alan Navarro really early on? Some before pre season even started if I remember right

Roberts signed 18th June 2012. TAH signed 26th June 2012 and he was the 6th signing of that close season at that point.

Yeah just went back and checked. Missed Andy Williams and Jay McEveley as well. Those two years were mental

It was mental, a proper rollercoaster, mostly up but then a big down at the end of it.

Yeah I took the statistics from here; http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/Transfers.asp?Season=2012-2013 rather than; http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/Transfers.asp?Season=2011-2012. The 'early' signings are included in the 2011 year. For my analysis I literally took the data from the transfers tab for the relevant seasons, and as others alluded to, we actually made a load of signings in June, so the stats are probably not totally accurate, but do give an idea of what we've done over the last 20 years or so.

Has Umerah from Hartlepool gone anywhere? He’d be a decent target man alongside Austin.

Cant say I was impressed by him, hes big and strong but not a great footballer. Had a similar record to Adeloye prior to joining Hartlepool. 30 goals in 130 mostly non league/Scottish games. Adeloye 20 goals in 100 non league/Scottish games. https://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sport/football/hartlepool-united-turn-down-offers-for-key-player-as-john-askey-provides-striker-update-4225209

I thought he was shockingly poor. Clearly a physical threat but reminded me of that Ikpeazu chap. Bambi on ice on the ball.

He reminded me of Akinde, a big unit with some strength but not a footballer.

Due to a lack of rumours and kind of linked to the Umerah chat, what about Omar Bogle at Newport? (don't believe he was there under Flynn) 19 goals last season for a poor Newport side.

Genuine question mate, have you seen him play? I have to say he wouldnt be on my most wanted list. Bogle...see Umerah.

We need an Umerah/Bogle type player, though. Telford is no use to us.
