If we are playing well enough that this is a problem in Jan, hopefully the crowds will be of a level where we can countenance a bid, or we will have had a cup run. So success isn't necessarily a issue!

Without wanting to go overboard on boo's potential cryptic tweets, he's tweeted 'A turkey exclusive' and a gif of a Turkey. This could either be a dig about Ryan Whelan's 'exclusives' or we're signing this lad.

Yeah problem is if he does really well (and thats a good thing for the first half of the season for us), but he then fancies himself a league 1 team or something. We win short term as we have with other loans recalled half way into the season of course. But yeah feels bad

That covers the Jonny Williams gap so thats a good start. Now let's fill the rest. I'll take another 3 loans like him if it means they come with a bit of experience and quality then add 2/3 solid signings

Good work

Sounds like a quality replacement for Williams. All very positive. If its a loan on our terms (no recall unless we say, fixed price to buy for if it goes well) then its probably a positive there too. If they can recall him then that's worrying.

5 or 6 more good looking signings like that, in positions we're more in need of and I'll move my hand away from the panic button for a bit.

I seem to remember around the time of the Doyle/Yates debacle that Wellens said every loan has a recall option, which seems likely.

Good signing, but annoying that it's on loan. If he's any good, he won't be here past January!

But he's here now after a cracking run with Hartlepool last season. If we could get him to sign here after scoring 9 in 16 games for them since January, I can't see why we wouldn't be able to persuade him to stay if things go well here.

Whelan is a very odd chap. He gets very snarky with people and snaps back with stuff like "Well, that's because I'm in a car park with my kids!" Weird.

Does he get info or just make mildly informed guesses and get them right occasionally?

He gets it right and loves the attention. I have known him a long time he was a old family friend and then in the last year or so turned a bit weird. A family member of mine was very ill (they had blood cancer) and STFC BOO thought he would tell me how that person had turned into a miserable cunt since they were ill

Those commenting on season long loans have only looked at the possible downside - recalled if he does well.
The other side is we can offload if he doesn’t - I don’t remember many complaints about the season long loans of Gilbert or Kovar being terminated early. Also (and let’s all hope he doesn’t), if the loanee gets a season ending injury early (like Ballard in 20/21) or later (Brennan last year) the early termination takes him off our wage bill.
