Franchise had an almost identical turnover to ours in 2022, so our attendances are important.

They spent 8.3m in that year running the shop, but actually made a big profit through player sales.  That won't happen every year, so they will likely banks some of that to cover losses from other years.  If they spend anywhere close to 8m this year they'll clearly be well above what we can offer.

I don't believe we sold anyone in that financial year, it was the Garner season.

No idea? Just playing Devil’s Advocate. If Vince is supporting FGR to the tune of £2m a year and we are generating a similar amount by having larger attendances what is the difference?

FGR actually look very similar to us, in terms of total income and spending as well.  Obviously they match our income through heavily inflated sponsorship - which they can get around by using FGR as a PR vehicle for their Ecotricity campaigns.  Looking purely at the finances, it's a club who we would be on a par with on paper - oh for that Sponsorship money!

If the figure of 4500 season tickets sold is correct then we are approx down 700 ST holders. If that averages out at about £350 per ticket then that’s close to £250k less income. Then factor in the fact we lost £500k last year and have around £200k in stadium repairs and the fact the transfer and wage markets are inflated, it’s not surprising that our budget or real terms spending power may be less than last season. I still think we have a much better manager than we had last season and there is a nucleus of decent players. I think we will be okay (but I would be deeply disappointed with another season of being merely okay).

Agree with most of this but am concerned that people are saying we have a nucleus of decent players. Sure, we are all hoping that they come good with coaching etc but this is a team that was one of the worst sides in the 92 in 2023 minus its most effective player in Williams and star goalkeeper in Brynn.

I'm not wishing to be doom and gloom but Morris/Brand had the perfect career profile to develop these younger players and that turned into a raging dumpster fire, so the assumption that Flynn, a journeyman L2 manager, is suddenly going to be polishing up rough diamonds is... optimistic. I hope he can.

Nucleus may have been the wrong word; there are still gaps clearly but we do have a few decent ones on the books such as FBT, Hutton, Austin to name a few.

Flynn at least has the Scott Twine feather in his cap.
More than can be said for the other two.

At the moment, the thing giving me any sort of hope is that Flynn must surely know that he has a golden goose at the club in Austin.  Find a way to get him the ball in the box and we stand a chance of being much better, even with average players.  Not wishing to go all DV here, but it's essentially what Gunning/Mildenhall did when they had charge - we put a lot more crosses in under them and Austin scored, it's what he will do in L2.

Get a central midfielder who can score, another one who can defend and a centre back and we already start to have the bones of a team to support Austin.  The worry is if gets injured, or Flynn takes the Morris path of ignoring said asset.
